Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jack Hummel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jack, thanks for joining us today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
Early on in my career I had all of my equipment robbed from my work vehicle, It was the first and only time i asked those around me to help me start over.

Jack, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I truly started all of this because of my mother. In the 90s she went to school for photo journalism. I had a camera shoved in my face from as far back as i can remember. I began in the industry at around 16 years old. My mothers best friends husband is the owner of Blindsight digital. They are a cinema team aimed at live streaming and commercials. He got me into my first string of sets as his AC. I eventually graduated highschool and went on to pursue freelance photography. I ended up shooting weddings for close to 4 years. I was apart of a wedding firm then moved to independent work of my own. Around 2020 I was laid off from the wedding firm and had all my gear stolen aside from one canon ae 1 35mm film camera. With help from friends and family and a 3 month grind I had everything back and then some. I transitioned to music videos and fashion videos. I wanted to separate myself from photo as I had always wanted to make movies and be a director. In 2021 I began working alongside Ryan Cass or Fivish, doing close to 30 interviews of the FILA artists. He did Photo and ran questions as I set cameras lights and audio. That pushed me into Doing FILA x MOTOWN music videos for the project. I began with “Reperations” (which due to legal reasons never officially released), I helped on elevator as, I directed shot and edited Party Plane with steph simon dialtone and charli wilson. After all of that FILA work I took the winter of 2021 off to assess where I was and where I wanted to go. As for the last 6 months Ive been working for Discovery Channel as an AC on the TV show “Street Outlaws”. I just recently shot the last Gang51June video in association with Atlantic records. As far as products and services, I provide photo , video , and cinematics of any kind. From full editorial style studio and outdoor photography, to industry cannibas photos, to what i specialize in which is events and concerts. I offer visualizers, music videos top to bottom, I camera OP as a steady rig from time to time. I have full access to close to 300k in cinema gear that my partner rents out by project. We offer solutions for first time artists like our last video from PILLO with DEEYAYGO called “Tuition” on our youtube page, all the way to 40k budgets with Charli wilson. We I would say the thing I like to say about myself and Pillo as whole is that we are always evolving and trying to be new. We love to shoot video film be it VHS all the way to 16mm bolex. We offer more value than anyone around and I can bet weve worked on some of your favorite videos and you not even know!
I am most proud of the team we have built at pillo. With myself as the owner and operator co headed by Kristo Blanc and Avitiuh (Los), as well as our intangible connections to our mentors and partners I want people to know we are creative junkies. Making something that inspires others is more than our goal, it is our purpose.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My own personal goal at the moment is to win the best music video award at the MTV Award.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of filmmaking is bringing something new to the table that those around me have never seen and are inspired by.
