We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jack Babel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jack below.
Jack , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Starting a business especially in the heat of COVID was a huge risk. It really just started out as a hobby and turned into something much more. We soon created a community of like minded people in the greater Nashville area. Whether it’s vending or throwing shows, pop ups or just being at events we make it a point to change the game even if it seems out of place. I dropped pretty much everything to get badworld going and we’re still in the early stages but I can confidently say it was well worth it:)
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Since the start, it’s just been a love for creating. I’m not gonna say I’m the best by any means but I enjoy just creating ideas and bringing them to life! There’s nothing like coming up with a concept and putting all the pieces together and making some sick. We mainly cater to streetwear/ skate wear but intend to expand and do many other goods in the future! I think what truly sets us apart from others is we are really here to leave a mark on the scene. I can confidently say we’ve attended 30+ events which is a lot for a small business. We enjoy traveling and meeting new people and really connecting on a personal level. We always appreciate our online support from our website but there’s nothing like being face to face and building a real connection! Im proud that we’ve started to really make a impact on the scene so early on and this was not intended to become what it was already we truly started just to have fun and create with our community!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Obviously online, social media platforms help out tremendously. I’d say the most important thing to do when starting a brand is to be everywhere all the time. Whether it’s your own pop up or event, or not just being active and surround you and your vision with the audience you want to be around.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
About a year ago, I had a brand with a similar name from the UK try to sue me for infringement. It was a long fight but after securing a trademark they couldn’t retaliate. I guess they could be slightly jealous if they thought we were trying to copy them lol. We own our name and all designs and haven’t even heard of them until they reached out. Yet we had to suffer from them by getting all of our platforms taken away like social media, websites etc. It was very draining but we won the case and been hitting it 100% ever since
