Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jacinda Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jacinda, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
Honestly, I wish I would have started my business sooner. I was always a very driven young woman, who inspired to be everything God had set out for me, and own my own business. I had this fear for years though. Life felt sort of like a big ball and chain that I was dragging for so long until I finally took a leap of faith and went for my dreams. I was at a bad place in my life when I decided to start my business, at the time I was preparing for a divorce that I didn’t know would be so messy, and it was something I never anticipated. I just wanted to be free, and to be my own woman. I wanted a safe place to lay my head, and a positive environment to grow in without anyones negativity, or anyone trying to belittle me. One day I finally decided to travel 12 hours and move to an entirely new state with my baby Boy, who at the time was only 2 year old. I didn’t know what the future held for me, or us, I just knew I had an apartment waiting in our name, a safe space, and a future that I could finally start from scratch. I worked as a bottle girl all night, and went back to school to obtain my third degree/license all day, while also navigating life as a new mommy all alone. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth building the best life I could for me and my baby boy. After about 6 months I finished school and became a licensed esthetician and jumped right into working for myself and branding my very own Beauty Salon business, Jacindarella Lashes & Beauty. Since then my salon has grew these past 3+ years, I have a sanctuary where I absolutely enjoy working everyday, I have serviced over 444 clients who I adore, I make my own prices and I’m financially free. I also brand some of my own lash products, and natural feminine care products, and I’m able to make women and men feel and look their best through many beauty practices, and especially lash extensions. I always knew the beauty field had a special place in my heart. My two Ohio University Health Science degrees wholeheartedly helped my journey of becoming an esthetician as well, so I’m very thankful nonetheless. Without all my schooling I wouldn’t have decided upon a plant based and natural beauty salon, or community, where we focus on healing the skin, mind and body from the inside out. My life journey and past 100% helped shape me, and helped shape the women and salon owner I’ve become and I’m so very grateful to mentor other lash artists and upcoming estheticians as well. I soon hope to host a siminar about my life and how I started from point A to point B, in hopes to inspire young women who’ve been in domestic situations, to shoot for the stars, never stop loving themselves, and to open that business. There’s an old quote from one of my favorite childhood movies, The Wizard Of Oz, that states, “You’ve always had the power my dear, you just had to learn it for yourself”, and that is one of the truest things I have ever heard to this day, and it helped me to believe I could and I would be successful. Even though I wish I would’ve started sooner, I’m grateful I started at all, and that I am the business owner, boss woman, and mama that I was meant to be. All it took was a little faith in myself, and determination. This is just the beginning too!
Jacinda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jacinda Brown and I am a Licensed and multi certified Esthetician, Salon Owner. I am also a mentor, a mama of a little boy, and soon to be girl mom as well coming this November. I have a beauty salon located in the heart of Columbus Ohio, where I specialize in natural and plant based beauty practices. These practices include Lash Extensions, Massages, Plant Based Facials and Skincare, Non invasive Body Sculpting, Sugar Waxing, Brows & more! I am also a product supplier for pretty much anything you need and I love helping other women become successful in the beauty industry! I feel the product I solve the most is making my clients feel and look beautiful from the inside out. I love putting smiles on peoples face, being a listening ear, and helping them relax all together through beauty and wellness. I am most proud of my success thus far, I come from a small family, and an ever smaller hometown. Growing up I didn’t see women owning businesses, I didn’t see much money being made, and I didn’t even see stores besides Goodwill or dollar general. I’ve been to London, USVI, Mexico, and so many other countries and states after starting my own business. I’m so happy and thankful I could do this on my own and I inspire to inspire young women like my past self, and my children as well. Follow me @jacindarellalashes to see my work, book with me, or apply to become a booth renter so I can help you grow as an esthetician, and obtain clients who will pay your price because they love your work and how you make them feel! I love what I do because it never feels like a job, I feel like a little girl every-time I step into my salon, all excited to play in beauty products and make people happy, and I get paid for it. What more could I ask for?
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
My most effective strategy for growing clientele has been posting my work. I used to be so afraid to post my work but if you don’t who will? I also encourage others and my clients to share my work and art because social media is free and it’s an amazing tool to share who you are, and what you do, which will attract likeminded people and clients who will adore you.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
I did turn my side hustle into a business because I started doing lashes for fun on family and friends for free after taking a training and becoming certified. I then realized I was pretty good, and I decided to go make a full time career of it which started with getting licensed in esthetics. At first I was only interested in lashes, then I realized all the fun things I could do as an esthetician and my passions and purpose in the industry grew, then my salon blossomed.
