We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ja’cee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ja’Cee, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Hopefully not to sound too cliche’, but I’ve known since the first time I touched a mic in my home church back in Greenwood, MS that I wanted to use my creative talents professionally. Being on stage and using my God given gifts to uplift others brings me a joy that I’ve yet to find the words for. There’s been quite a unique path that I’ve taken to get where I am now, but here I am. I guess what’s meant to be really is what’s meant to be!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jeremy Collins, known artistically as Ja’Cee. I’m a country music artist here in Nashville, TN. I’m originally from Greenwood, MS and I, along with my wife, Jamie, and our four kids Jazelle, Jamya, Jeremy (Jace) Jr. and Jewell, have called this great city home for the past 10 years. I’ve been involved with music in some capacity for most of my life, but I’ve been an artist for just shy of a year now. I’m known for providing a genre bending style of country music that introduces pop, soul, and r&b influences into the music. I’m also known for the passionate performances that I put on when I’m on stage.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
In this day and age, following and engaging with us on social media helps a lot. This allows the artist and fan to connect on a more personal level and gives fans insight to what the artist does when he/she isn’t “being and artist.” Close connections builds life long fans
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me the most rewarding thing is seeing the faces of people in the crowd when I’m performing. It’s one thing when it’s your family and close friends enjoying your performance, but seeing someone that you’ve never met before screaming your song lyrics to the top of their lungs is what gets me everytime.
