We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jace Greenwood. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jace below.
Jace, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Started in Highschool and working in community Theatre. I was taking a lot of acting classes at the time, then eventually found Michelle Delong (acting teacher and Casting director in Oklahoma), who helped me transition from the stage to film and TV work. Told myself I wanted a bigger market so I went to Atlanta and that’s where I spent the majority of my time learning and taking every class offered basically.
I would say go back when I was 15,16 and learn dance better, a musical instrument. Audition a lot more, and realize at 17 plan your move out of state to a new and more explosive agency! Whether that be ATL, NYC, or even LA at the time.
My work ethic I would say was way more essential and my hunger for learning and growing not just as an actor but as a person too.
Obstacles I would have to say trauma, my trauma had a big portion of holding me back. Until I was able to finally face my trauma I was able to become my full authentic self.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Industry: Found love for it at an early age, wanted to express myself with my body’s instrument.
Business: learning where I could adapt and where I could work on my business essentials was the most important to me to figure out.
Discipline: Honestly this is an easy one, I knew from the start I wasn’t getting anywhere in this career without me doing the hard work. Whether that’s learning a new script, honing my craft, or my marketing.
Craft: Finding out my weak points in my career and going to learn about it. That could be reading a book, taking class, or simply networking to find the right avenue.
What I offer: I am an actor and marketing coach. Whether you need someone to help you pick headshots, submit to agents, help strengthen your materials. I’m your guy, I have been doing this now for 5 years straight (being a marketing coach) and have helped a huge amount of actors get agents, auditions, and most importantly knowing who you are.
I most proud of working hard, and continuing working hard. This career takes a lot out of you so if you can look yourself in the mirror and go I’m still going at this, I believe that’s the best form for you. I want them to know, I come at this with care and passion. I won’t let my students be lazy and take the easy way out. I sure didn’t and the results are paying off. So what I would say is trust, trust me to get you to where you need to be!
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Honestly understanding all the things that happen to an artist behind closed doors. You don’t work hard enough in the career to not have a tremendous amount of sacrifice.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Marketing materials and types! As actors we want to play every role and think we can, but the reality of that situation is we don’t. I wish I had known this stuff a long time ago.
