We recently connected with Jac Carson and have shared our conversation below.
Jac, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
On July 21st (the eve of my 30th birthday), we will be releasing my first studio album. After 5 years and 30 songs over 6 EPs, I have compiled a full collection of songs, written and honed down south. A reflection of time spent in a new home and a new chapter of life, a slice of the sounds of Austin we call “New Texas Groove”.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jac Carson. I’m the 8th Joseph, the 2nd Aaron, and one of a million Carsons. I am an Alt-Blues guitarist and Americana-Soul songwriter from Pittsburgh, PA, and Austin, TX has been my home since 2020 made me move South.
My band and project is called “Jac with No K”. 4 words, 1 name. You say everything in the quotations, and you type it all out. The band is a reflection of my songwriting, and my songs echo the places of my life.
Our music is one thing. Genuine. It is a genuine reflection of my songwriting, and the abilities of myself and my bandmates. It is a lot of things, but it is ourselves, a sincere offering of our work as both artists and professionals. A combination of blues roots and innately-catchy melodies we call “New Texas Groove”
Since I’ve been down in Texas, the main core of my band has consisted of Rhett Belcher (Drums), Carlos VanWees (Fiddle/Slide/Guitar), Kendall Harrison (Sax), and Daniel Benoit (Bass, often Upright). Though I’d like to give a Special Shoutout to Rulo Haaz (Bass), Jeff Sanders (Drums), and the core rotation of talented players it takes to keep a live band functioning in Austin’s music scene.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
Glad you asked Janet. Also, I love what you’re doing with your hair. (And I sure hope you don’t edit out the fake-interviewer part of this, I believe it’s a solid but your readers will enjoy)
*takes a drag of an e-cigarette* Anyways, here’s the thing about NFTs:
What are they even? Some kind of picture?
I mean I get it, there’s only one “real” one, and at it’s core it’s art, the same way there’s only one real “Starry Night”, and then there’s a bunch of prints. But here’s the thing Janet, I can’t google “Starry Night” and get the same effect as owning it, or really even get a near comparable effect. HOWEVER, if I were to Google “Bored Ape” and take a screen shot, I would have the same visual pleasure as owning the NFT.
*takes a long drag*
I think about them like any kind of TCG or Sports Card, but the reason that those products never took off digitally is cause you wanna feel the weight of the card in your hand. Put them Apes on a piece of cardboard, THEN we’ll talk.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Do you think my 3000 followers to 2000 followed ratio is what most people would consider an “audience”?
*looks directly into camera* You wanna know how to build an audience? Have a top-notch meme game and enough friends who get your sense of humor to tune in, and then pray they like you enough to like your show posts.
*takes another drag of the e-cigarette* Honestly, I wish you wouldn’t talk to me like this in front of the kids *motions over to fishbowl with 2 goldfish and a label that reads “the Kids”*
