We recently connected with Jabria Howington and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jabria, thanks for joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I’m the type of person that doesn’t live with regrets, but for the purpose of this question I do wish I would’ve started my creative career sooner. Growing up with an Asian grandmother made that difficult. She always pushed me to become a doctor or a lawyer (iykyk). Had I started sooner, I would’ve made a transition to California sooner to get a jump start on networking and propel my creative career even further. Since moving, the opportunities have been endless.
Jabria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Ella Siobhan is an alias I created meaning “light and grace of God.” I’ve been modeling for over ten years and have been writing music for over five years. To make extra money, I began modeling while in college and it quickly turned into a passion. Music has always been a part of my life but I didn’t start developing my sound and brand until after college.
While living in D.C., I started to branch out into the modeling and music industries, growing 10K+ followers after only six months of starting my Instagram profile; catching the attention of many.
After gaining momentum, I was casted for a Reality TV Show, released my first single and album, and was featured in various magazines and blogs. I was also featured in Last Day Deaf as the video vixen for Footwerk’s Music Video called Glass House.
Since my move a few years ago, I’ve been published in over five international fashion magazines, casted in several music videos, booked major commercial campaigns from Bumble to Hyper Skin, and walked a fashion runway back in April for a local high fashion brand.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is the freedom of expression and the connections you make along the way. Often times, I find that people in this industry share the same values, drive and inspiration for creating something spectacular. Most of the time, it’s not for clout, it’s purely about the collaborative process and walking away with something relatable.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
As mentioned, I grew a large following in a short amount of time and continue to do so on any platform. The key is consistency, a clear vision, and courage. Sometimes, it can be scary to put yourself out there to be judged but stay true to yourself and your purpose.
