Hi Jaamal, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I am a sneaker head that fuses culture with art. I’ve been to tons of events, shows and stages where women always been an after thought to the sneaker and art community. I’ve used my platform to highlight women who are dominating the sneaker game and art industry. I wanted to break that , by using my brand to put women in the spotlight daily and first!
Jaamal, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a photographer based out of New York that bring vision to reality. My photos tell a story, put you in the moment. I highlight women through my art, mixing their stories with my art to deliver the culture we all love in the photography and fashion community. Each post is like hearing your favorite song on repeat with women at the front line.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Most women love to dress of course and they love style and sneakers. I’ve seen and known so many women that have amazing sneaker collections! But never showed their collection because of the thought of men down playing them “what you know about that?!” “Why you have those?”. To the world it’s like seeing a woman on a motorcycle, instantly turn heads! And I see women in sneakers the same. Let’s stop questioning women, and praise them, support them, clap for them. Trust and believe women do it better!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’ve always had people from both sides of the gender say “why are you pushing so hard for women?” Or “you just trying to talk to these women “ . NO, I’m acknowledging women. Respecting them, letting them be heard.
