We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jaabecca Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jaabecca , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with a fun one – what’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
I believe that most of what we are taught about success, what success as an entrepreneur looks like, and what makes and individual successful is false.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur. I started reading articles and watching infomercials as child .
Once I became an adult I first started in sales, then direct sales( network marketing), and eventually street sales. I was a drug dealer and was incarcerated for 2 years.
I learned many lessons about success throughout my life and even more while incarcerated.
However my beliefs about success I learned while having success in the direct sales industry and learning about people who were “Successful”
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I unlearned that “the more you make the more successful you are”. It’s not true.
Money is only a marker of how successful your business is but not the person.
I value my health, family, time freedom much more than I do the money.
Of course the money is a tool I use for time freedom but the impact my business has on people is equally as important.
Have you ever had to pivot?
My direct sales business hit 6 figures and changed our family dynamic. My wife I were finally financially stable and enjoying the benefits of entrepreneurship.
Then the company we were partnered with went under and we were right back to $0.
After a year of working on smaller projects we I eventually had to get jobs. It was very humbling. However the year of working that job taught me about myself and empowered me to start my own company.
I was fired after one year and my business has thrived every since.
