Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ja-Naisah Salters. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Ja-Naisah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the best advice you ever gave to a client? How did they benefit / what was the result? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
The best advice I’ve ever gave a client is to wholeheartedly take care of your mind, spirit, and body. Often, we are hustling and bustling on-the-go daily while forgetting to tend to the needs of our own mind, spirit, and body. Do you often hear “I don’t have time to do…” or “I don’t have the money to…” ?Well, yes we all have time. We just choose how we want to spend our time. We all may have some spare change after paying bills, but not always do we spend it on things that will actually benefit our mind, spirit, and body. Self care is important to our daily lives to help us live better and longer, stress less, and lower the risk of illness.
One of my long time clients would express to me the amount of pain she’s always in due to on-going stomach issues. Several attempts to get a colonoscopy with no luck. She started to say “maybe it’s just not meant for me to get one”. I explained to her “Disease begins in the mind. We cause our own pain and stress majority of the time. I know it’s hard doing it but try to not stress or worry, stretch/exercise, and overall take better care of your mind and body.” You ever notice when you’re nervous you feel it in body? Ever noticed when some people are stressed they get headaches or pain in the body? Disease begins in the mind.
So she began stretching daily and noticed a difference in the way her body felt. First, she experienced less cramping in her abdomen. Then, she noticed less tension in her whole body. Stretching also helped her clear her mind as sometimes our minds can become very overwhelmed. Adding mediation or spa music is a nice added touch to stretching. It’s the little things we do for ourselves that make a huge difference.
Exercising improves your physical appearance, but it has also helped keep pain from the body as my client is now conditioning muscles and bones to improve her overall ability to do everyday activities. We all know that exercise benefits tremendously, but how do you train your mind to exercise instead of being lazy or blowing it off? Just remember how important you are to yourself. You have to want to feel better and actually take action in making yourself better. It’s really that simple. Here are some basics tools to help you start taking care of you: yoga mat, dumbbell weights, and books. Fuel your kind. Fuel your body. As unhealthy conditions should be changed, bad habits will be corrected.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Ja-Naisah and I’ve been a licensed esthetician for about 5 years now specializing in natural skincare, custom healthy skin facials and advanced skincare treatments such as Microdermabrasion, Chemical Peels, High Frequency Treatment, and Dermaplaning. It is the most satisfying feeling to see my clients’ smile after each service with me, along with their amazing new glow. My treatments are designed to enhance your beauty and boost your confidence in every way possible. As we overcome the daily stresses of the world, we all deserve to self love and self care on a daily basis.
I began my career in skincare in 2017 after college. I graduated from Montclair State University with B.A. of Arts majoring in Visual Merchandising. Then, graduated from Capri Institute of Kenilworth to receive my esthetician license. After receiving my first facial at Massage Envy shortly after college, I realized everyone needs to feel this tranquil feeling of complete relaxation, all while treating and maintaining healthy skin. As an African American woman, it is pertinent that we take extra care of our melanin skin, as it is easy to permanently harm our skin with toxic ingredients. There are so many synthetic, toxic ingredients used in the Cosmetic Industry linked to cancer such as Synthetic Fragrance, Phthalates, Parabens, PEG (Polyethylene Glycol, and the most popular of them all Retinol. In the US, beauty products are largely unregulated, putting our melanin skin at a greater risk to become permanently damaged. Making healthier choices pertaining to what you ingest, put on your body, and in your home is vital to a long, healthy life.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
As I’ve gotten older, reading has been important in my life and something I, often do. Two books that have changed my life in the most positive ways are The Ministry of Healing by E.G. White and The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale. These books implement important leadership skills and strategies to success. The Ministry of Healing focuses more on natural healing, disease prevention, nutrient and diet, conquering stress, and mental health.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back in time, I would choose the same career. I truly enjoy improving my clients’ skin and helping them improve their overall health. It is truly rewarding to see the smiles on my clients’ faces after each treatment. My goal is to educate people all over the world about skin health, mental health, and the importance of taking care of yourself as a result of living a longer, healthier, successful life.
