We caught up with the brilliant and insightful J$20 The Presidential King a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
J$20, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Like everything with repetition and win and losses. Improving what works and working on what didn’t and understanding why it didn’t. Gotta be strategic in everything you do to obtain success.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My Name J$20 and that’s pronounced (Jay Dub) I accept Dub or 20 as a nickname. I’m from the west side of Chicago. You know “290 shit” But I also lived over east for most of my mid teens to adult hood but I started going back and forth. My mom from out west but my dad from over East. I started rapping for real and recording over East with my boy B-Eazy at Droopy Tek studio. (RIP Droopy). And professionally like a few years ago. I’m learning that consistency is key. My discipline is my passion and making sure I’m staying ahead of the curve while also trying to dodge b.s. I’m just truly to make sure my music solid and I’m putting out some feel good shit. My proudest moment is my first 10k views with my streams and videos with my song 20 Mill. But we still working and still producing. Checkout my daughter DK & her song “School’s Out”. We’re working over here.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The pandemic was a switch up but it was a good time to learn news ways to excel.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being able to speak my peace. Talk my ish in the most elaborate way possible. I love making music. Imma do if I get 1 million listens or none at all.
