We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful J.valerie Johnson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with J.Valerie below.
Alright, J.Valerie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the best advice you’ve ever given to a client? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
KEEP moving! The body is designed to move and sitting, standing or even laying in one position for a long time is very stressful to the joints and muscles. Movement doesn’t need to be difficult or even strenuous, my best patient goes to the YMCA to do the water aerobics and LOVES the class. It is social, slow moving and low impact exercise that gets the blood pumping, but not so difficult that breathing becomes labored. Just enjoyable movements to music in a fun loving group. And the best part is the low back pain has become minimal due to treatments and this low impact exercise.

J.Valerie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started in chiropractic after I had a car accident and was very disillusioned with our hospital guidelines. Thankfully, they did take X-rays, but their treatment was pain pills, which I didn’t take except at night. But the pain worsened over the next week so I sought help from other doctors, most of whom, would not take my car insurance. I was directed to chiropractic and found this experience to be exceptional. No pills. Just physical treatments for a physical problem. And nutrition advice for the healing process. I was so impressed with the efficiency of the treatments and exercises, that I started asking questions of the Chiropractic Physician that was treating me and wondering why this treatment was not offered in the hospitals. My injuries did turn out to be chronic and permanent, but with treatment, the pain doesn’t keep me from the things I love to do, swimming, dancing and learning about nutrition. I now offer physical treatments, (adjustments, massage, exercises) and nutrition advice and the newest technique for herniated discs – spinal mechanical decompression. I work with patients as a partner to help their body function at it’s optimal level.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Besides the training and knowledge I’ve obtained, in my experience, it’s most helpful to actually care about the patient’s outcomes from treatment. This should be the most important aspect of any business, for sure. If the patient is not experiencing good outcomes, then you must change the treatments, and oftentimes, listening to the patient will give you the answer to why and what changes need to be made. Listening to their story is fundamental to their success.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your firm or practice?
When I graduated from school, I worked for other chiropractors for several years. I also taught at Keiser College for several years teaching anatomy to nursing, massage and respiratory therapists. I started my own clinic in 2012 on a shoestring and while still teaching night classes.
