We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful J.V. Hilliard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with J.V. below.
Hi J.V. , thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
The panel topic will be learning the craft and starting my career earlier.
J.V. , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m J.V. Hilliard, epic fantasy author of the Amazon Best-Selling Warminster Series. I’ve always been interested in writing and fantasy, starting at a young age when my uncle and English teacher introduced me to Dungeons and Dragons and The Hobbit. These interests took the back burner as I built my career in government, but when Covid hit, I had more time on my hands. I decided to finally chase my dream of writing and publishing a book, and The Last Keeper was released in December of 2021. I’m most proud of having the courage to take the plunge into authorship and finally committed to writing not one book, but three along with a Kindle Vella story and a fourth book releasing soon.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is without a doubt the impact your writing can have on people. It never fails to make my day when I hear a reader has loved following my stories.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Pivoting career-wise is something I’ve done a few times and even in the same day. I wear a lot of hats, managing a magazine, running podcasts, grant writing, writing fiction, and even more. It keeps me busy.
