We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful J-Twon Dope Hertz Entertainment. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with J-Twon below.
J-Twon , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
My dad was a drummer and liked to frequent live shows. With him being super man in my eyes, I loved to tag along whether he wanted or not lol. I was 9 years old when he maybe had no choice but to take me with him to practice with his band for a gig that night, and this was the first time I got to see him and the band rock. Of course I was in complete Ahhh watching him and them absolutely kill it, but it was the reactions from the club staff and and few temp workers setting up. They were dancing, laughing, cheering, crying even. When the band was leaving stage, the way that everyone was feeling, talking, and simply enamored by the experience…… at that moment, though I was very music literate, I actually felt that this is what I wanted to do, needed to do, had to do.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I think to simply put it, a comfortably venerable social introvert who’s fantasia is alive and well lol……IYKYK🫠.
Honestly I just felt around in the dark, so to speak. Had no real knowledge of getting started so I hit any open mic stage I could find.
Through lots of networking and building lasting relationships with the greatest of artists and people, it was easy to transition, learn and acclimate to the far overlooked business side of the coin.
And unfortunately you come to understand all smiles aren’t genuine and all handshake aren’t intentional, so truth to self is key and u good.
Yea so the discipline i can only equate to first….my father, and second the army.
I have a work ethic in whatever I do, either music or paper clip stacking, i take pride in my works.
I feel if you know my music, then you know me, as this is my therapist and safe haven. I think the ability to convey emotions and visualize authentic stories with words are my separation from other artists, being so called different was an insecurity in the beginning but quickly realized it was my absolute strength.
Honestly the proudest achievement so far is not quitting. I’ve made alot of traction in a decent amount of time and foresee the constantly growing future…… despite so many doubts, doubters, unimaginable obstacles and plenty of opportunities to just stop going. Im proud of my faith in my god and myself to continue.
There’s much more music and content to come, just stay tuned in.

“Just cus you don’t see me, don’t mean you won’t see me “

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Short answer, get up and go see them!!!!
Yes, every creative is super jazzed and thankfully when you subscribe to a channel, like that post, or stream a song that took days, weeks, months, years to create, But to see that art projected face to face in the intimacy it was ment to be experienced is unmatched. Sure the games cool to watch on TV, but I’d rather scream laugh at my beer soaked shorts because I caught the foul ball. You’ve spent much more on much less, and these local artist are incredible. Most of the time it’s free to see them, support is not just money.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
So a while back and a bit greener then now, I met a now realized “janky” promoter….. we’ll just call him promo lol. He saw me perform at a showcase in Houston and thought I was dope and invited me to perform at a mansion party. Not gonna lie, it was dope at first, I did a few appearances as the decent sized party crowds enjoyed something fresh and different, and promo fancied the attention. Note, I wasn’t getting paid, but I was happy for the so called exposure and opportunity to just grace a stage where im the most comfortable and free so I didn’t question the obvious. The last party was an over night tent party, and I was asked to show up early to set up……. no problem to me, always willing to help. Not only did I in summer heat set up 15 to 16 single and double size tents alone, but change clothes, rocked my set ( selfless pug), then took it all down alone when the party was over. Once done I was offered a drink inside before I left, I guess to show his appreciation for the work. He pulled out a 50 and slide it across the kitchen counter and said I appreciate all your help, I said no worries im always down for the cause…… you can keep the money i told him, just pay me in opportunities and we straight. Not too soon after that, him and his team invited over some pole choreographed entertainment I’ll say lol. I then, after getting offered 50 bucks for traveling to Houston from Fort Worth, to perform and do manual labor, watched him dump easily 5000 on this lady who’s been here 10 minutes, and she wasn’t even naked fam….. still dancing in a coat. I just SMH and charged it to the game.
