Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to J Termz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
J, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I believe in the simple practice of never quitting. I’m big on the understanding of universal laws such as attraction, thinking, and obedience. Although “never quitting” isn’t directly listed, I believe it’s a driving force behind these laws because should you quit none of these laws unfold. Look at it like running, to improve your cardio you have to push passed the points of being tired to reach a new height in your stamina.
J, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At the beginning, 16 years old, I only wanted to rap. Never cared about being a business owner / brand. It wasn’t til I stumbled upon Nipsey Hussle that made me want to step into the entrepreneurship role. After listening to “Crenshaw” from front to back 100 times plus, it was hard not to haha. What separates me will be my underlying story and the personal battles I went through alone to even have the wherewithal to continue to push. I feel as though everyone has a testimony that can inspire someone else and that within itself is more satisfying fore I myself am heavily inspired. My proudest accomplishments at the moment aren’t those of music, but as person. My current flow of music is just detailing my journey to this point. It’s more of documenting in a sense.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The first lesson I had to learn was that like most of us, I didn’t learn anything. I never learned credit, business, investing, funding capital, branding etc. I spent a lot of time reading and researching the basic principles of those key factors to the point I was confident enough to start a business. I’m not at the point where I’ve mastered any of those factors but that comes with time of course.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I first got kicked out of college that was the beginning of very rocky road for me. I went from trying to figure it out as a college student to now trying to figure out where I was going to stay for the night and how I was going to eat. I spend over a year shaking back from sleeping on floors and couches just to land a solid room to keep my belongings. Throughout that period I never wavered once on what I knew I wanted to do and that’s music. I gained a lot of “character” from this so I’m deeply thankful.
