We were lucky to catch up with J R Lyle recently and have shared our conversation below.
J R, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
There are risks associated with everything. The investment of financial resources and personal time are a huge venture for which you may not see a true profit. Not knowing if there will ever be a return on investment is a risk I had to contend with. For me, it was important to continue the journey into the unknown, creating strategies to fund the path I had chosen. I needed to answer the question, will you be ok with yourself if you never try to pursue responsibly the thing you’ve always dreamed about. Can you find a reason to say “yes” to you? A reason to plan and revisit your dream until it comes to fruition. For me, the answer was yes, always remembering the dream is free.

J R, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I took to the journey of sharing my works on a larger platform after much encouragement, the reintroduction to self, and the acceptance of vulnerability found in the act of permission.
In doing so, I constantly choose to disarm the fear of the unknown and uncertainty, redefining it all as possibility.
Often asked what types of creative work do I have? I’ll tend to say my ABCs of creative expression include Accessories, Books, and Canvas.
I create hand crafted jewelry, I am a published author, canvas artist, and boutique owner.
I love all things art, I always have. I am fascinated by the way art can touch everyone encountering it, differently. I also love how it can mean and say something else, depending on the time of the encounter. My relationship with creative art is not one of formality. It is free and fluid, and unconditional.
I believe there is a space for us all. I think we all have a way with whatever it is that we have a way with. Our uniqueness in the expression of it renders comparison irrelevant. What we do has the power to inspire, offer joy and/or confirmation. I hope that my works resonate with even one.
I am simply proud that I am who I am. I continue to choose reintroduction to me. I am humbled and grounded in the fact that that is enough.
You may never know the full impact of all that is you. My mantra, “Give yourself permission to be, to share, to do.”

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Identifying your creative community is something I have only just scratched the surface of. While it may feel risky, it has been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had along the way thus far. This is a gem you will not want to pass up. It is an investment. It requires your attentiveness. There rest invaluable resources, and inspiration. You must be willing to get out of your own way, stretch yourself beyond your comfort zone a bit, and be open to possibility.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I would say access and integrating guided meditation books, mobile device apps, and/or classes. I use them daily. It remains a significant impacting force as a whole. There are so many different types. Find what works for you. Most importantly, set aside dedicated time. Taking the time to pause always refreshes and fuels my ability to focus on what is necessary. It helps to prioritize what is truly important, sparks creativity and curiosity to explore further. Management and entrepreneurship thinking, and philosophy can be an overwhelming aura that drives you when you should be driving it. Find your center. Knowing how to maintain your center keeps you in the driver’s seat throughout your journey. And the last tidbit I’d like to share is to always know that your pace is your pace. This journey is your journey.
