We were lucky to catch up with J Money3rdW recently and have shared our conversation below.
J, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The story behind my mission is about leaving a legacy. That represents perseverance through the obstacles of life & ultimate resilience to never give up no matter the circumstance. I believe in leaving a legacy , that alone embodies the power of inspiration beyond the current time we exist in . It’s a timeless stamp on the world created by passion & hard work that serves as an inspiration to the one’s that dream big
J, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I go by the name of Jmoney3rdW & I’m an artist / co – founder of my brand ( 3rdWRLD) . I was born & raised in a 3rdWrld country ( Nassau , Bahamas ) about 30mins off the coast of Florida in the Caribbean .
Coming from an island , hip – hop / rap music is popular , but not a tangible career most people pursue cause it’s not directly a part of our culture . So doing music professionally as a rap artist coming from here was something that wasn’t totally embraced in the beginning .
My music journey started when I was young in the Bahamas , listening to a load of rap / hip – hop music . Most songs I listened to back then were songs from the radio , my cousins or a song I might hear watching a show , but if it was music I was drawn to it .
I count this as the beginning because although I was around 10/11 I remember the feeling I got from listening to music & the way I understood the artist perspective .
I started listening to Lil Wayne mainly , with a good mix of old hip hop artist like T.I , Jeezy , Ludacris , 50 cent ect .
My professional music journey began in 2019 when I dropped out of college . At the times I was on scholarship playing football , but my passion was heavily invested into music . I started skipping practice to record , staying up late , whatever it took to become a better artist & perfect my craft . I had told myself from when I was 16 I wanted to be an artist just being inspired by chief keef but was always 50/50 , but in 2019 once I realized my potential & saw the growth in my work I decided to take it all in with music . Dropped my first music video shot in the Bahamas “ Who It Iz “ that same year .
One of the things I’m most proud of is being able to empower my friends & family through doing muisic . Maybe not so much financially ( yet ) but it’s a lot of other areas I can see me believing in my self inspired them to believe in themselves . Knowing that they recognize my dedication , passion , drive & making efforts to match that in their lives while supporting me and believing in me at the same time is priceless to me .
I’m also proud of the decisions I made to get to this point , before it was all a dream for me … literally . Doing write ups , interviews was so far fetched when I was back in The Bahamas watching the things I do now through a computer screen wondering what it would even feel or be like . I ultimately thank God for the positions he’s put me in and the doors he’s opening within my life & career
Most of my fans / supports can look forward to the elevation of the whole brand ! Relentlessly working everyday in the studio or creating business ideas to make everything the way it should be . Sound , professional & quality service on every level from sonically to visually .& the expansions of everything . The visions I have for the brand 3rdW so big I can’t even fully put it in to words , stuff like that I let the work speak and the people see , that’s my formula … Their reactions to what you produce paint the picture whether it’s right or wrong , in any capacity
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Keep everybody inspired through your actions & leading by example . A lot of times people try to talk people into inspiration or coach them into it , I even struggled with this . It change when you put alot of words into action there were times I was saying all the right things but wasn’t quite in my full stride of doing them myself . The second I put my best foot forward and just starting bringing in results I saw the difference of my entire team & the impact results had on them . It’s serves as inspiration again because not everybody believes in results they can’t see so when you bring results in they can see from a thought that began in your head that speaks volumes to your team without necessarily having to use words . If they with you they’ll buckle up to make sure they stay with you .
I think communication , respect & transparency the key ingredients for keeping high morale within a team . Me and my team leave no space for grey areas we communicate as a group making sure to keep everybody on the same page & accountable for the standards we set while achieving to be great & leave a legacy . That within itself kind of regulates morale , ethics , character through everybody . The communication/transparency is vital so that everybody know their roles & what exactly they bring to the table so that we can all function cohesively & never against each other .
Time , time is a big factor to me . The more time you spend with your team the more chemistry you build , the more trust you build & the more bonds solidify so it’s a sense of love/trust throughout the team and confidence in one another to get the job done
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I thought you could take everybody with you but I had a tough lesson to unlearn that . Coming into this or any journey at the beginning you want to take everybody around with you or it feels like they’ll be apart of your entire journey . I learnt this from trying to hold on and keep people around that didn’t have my best interest at heart but my vision with them being there was so clear to me I couldn’t see that they didn’t . I was focused on just making it happen and being able to take care of them .
Not everybody around always have the same plan as you so being heavily invested into YOUR plan can blind you a little from seeing that some around you don’t even believe in your plan & it’ll show over time no matter how much they try to hide it . Whether it’s through jokes or something they say when you’ll not seeing eye to to eye either way that’s something you can’t hide from somebody that’s in tune with themselves & the energy around them .
I learnt that I had to stick to my plan for me & let God handle the rest , trusting and believing he’ll bless me with the spirit of discernment to add and remove the right people that’ll work for my plan and my plan work for theirs . I believe in unity , balance & love so I’m always trying to help those around me on a day to day basis and make sure we all experience life in the same capacity .
