We recently connected with J Fitz and have shared our conversation below.
J, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
My company is GODFLOW.
GODFLOW is a design house and lifestyle brand with a mission to “Make Faith Fly Again” by inspiring and empowering individuals to increase their connection with God – through the lens of design, lifestyle, and fashion.
This idea naturally came to me during my freshmen year of college at Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). People were naturally drawn to how I carried myself: smooth, fly, and charismatic. People didn’t understand how I could wear the leather jacket, and Jordans, have the aesthetic of a bad boy, but simultaneously have an intimate relationship with God.
They didn’t know that it was possible to do both, lol.
This later deepened my love for walking more boldly in my faith and my authenticity, to inspire others in their journey.
More context: I grew up in a Christian household and naturally developed a love for God. However, throughout my upbringing and as I began to explore and expand my wings out into the world, I realized many people come from different backgrounds. Therefore, faith and God can look different for everyone. I got tired of people branding people of faith in a negative and corny light…I come to refresh the narrative and provide quality to the market.
My purpose is to inspire others to walk in their authenticity, provide perspective on who God is, and empower them to live a life of alignment and abundance.
GODFLOW creates a safe and fresh space for the new believer and the seasoned believer. We understand that everyone is on their journey and could use support in how they navigate faith, lifestyle, and fulfillment.
This vision is all worthwhile to me because it’s a conviction of mine. I’m simply being obedient to what God has called me to do and the dope part is, I can do it while being myself. Our world is in deep demand for truth. What better way to help others than by providing truth through style?

J, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a Fly, Man of God. “It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it.” I’m aware that people always remember how you make them feel! I’m a designer and have been now for 10 years.
My craft began ever since I pivoted from basketball, in high school. I first gained traction in my career, when my artwork was showcased at the High Museum of Art for the 2015 student exhibit. Ever since then I’ve been nurturing my gift and spreading as many seeds as possible throughout the arts and design.
After attending SCAD, I transferred to Morehouse and became the first fashion design graduate in Morehouse College History. During my attendance, a luxury womenswear brand in Paris came on campus and signed me to become a design assistant for their brand. I’ve been blessed to continuously work with multiple brands and creatives. My most proud accomplishment was signing with Nike in 2023 and being chosen as 1 of 9 designers to be a part of the Serena Williams Design Crew.
I got into my industury off of faith, curiosity, and listening to that little voice inside when it tells me to lean in more and go after more. My design services range from apparel design, graphic design, footwear design, interior design, and UX design. What sets me apart from others is the energy, spirit, and exposure I create from. Lots of my projects range across different mediums, but they’re all God-breathed and lead. My exposure and background help me to utilize design thinking to better assist my clients and audience, to elevate their needs.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Trusting in God, putting good energy out into the world, attending events, being a part of a community (whether business or creative), living and embodying good energy, and consistently doing great work.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I first moved to Portland, Oregon to work for Nike, things weren’t as easy or sweet as I thought they would be. Even though the experience was such a great opportunity I faced many tests.
I was chosen to design in an area I didn’t have much experience in —
This initially created lots of stress, anxiety, and imposter syndrome for me. My resilience kicked in when I committed to becoming better, utilizing my faith, my design partner, and my dedication to get the job done.
My remedy:
– I prayed and got closer to God – to build my faith and fortify me (scriptures were placed all over my apartment, work desk, and laptop
– My design partner, Javi, would stay up with me late at night and show me how to use Illustrator, from scratch
– I’d constantly refine my design process and work on getting my speed faster to offer more ideations for Friday’s meetings and evaluations
– I’d seek and lean on mentorship to expose me to great work, to help me develop a more robust design philosophy
Overall, I completely let my ego ride in the backseat and placed my courage and my faith in the front seat to drive me to a more resilient place.
