Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to J. Amyra. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
J., thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
A memorable success story would be selling a meaningful piece of my original work. That day, I was asked to explain the concept behind the creation of the piece. After I explained, the customer displayed a great interest in having the work. Not just any work though, he wanted that one.. the original, no prints. After I relayed my price and the deal was final, I learned by him that I had potentially intervened in what may have been a very sad, dire situation. That piece was worth every penny, regardless whether or not I sell works of higher value. The end result was priceless.
I have begun to realize that my art serves a purpose more than I may know or sales may display. To know that an expression of my own can make such a difference is incredible. This is what keeps me going. While I would love to be “Sold Out” of all of my works, there’s a different feeling when you know it’s purchased by the souls it has touched.

J., before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an acrylic artist who has experienced plenty of other mediums also! I believe art is expression. Of course it should be seen, and even heard.. most importantly, it should be felt. I create art for this purpose. My art usually depicts a deeper meaning within the big picture. I am most proud of my ability to create from my soul. I feel each piece I create, and in turn, the souls that view resonate with them.
I have worked in painting, digital arts, and ceramics. I am passionate about my works and expressive abilities through my art, and planning on returning to some of these other mediums in the near future!

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The growth of my business has been slow and steady, yet patient and constructive. This process has been self funded and equipped by my own wages. While the process can take an extended time, I know that this business will be fulfilled and will have all its needs met to be a successful brand. I am in no rush to create something that I intend to build with longevity in mind. I have no way of knowing what the future will hold for myself or my business, but I know that I will give it everything I can and mold it into something bigger than me. A business and brand that can serve and sustain within such a community that seeks collaboration versus competition.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I am currently within this process now and it is truly bittersweet (sometimes more bitter than sweet). I have done art for most of my life, and it took me some time to finally realize that this is what I want and need to do. A milestone for me would be to successfully have an art studio, a place where I can just BE. I would also enjoy continuing to see my work in museums and exhibitions. This allows me to connect with other artists, explore different styles of art, as well as creating a space in the world for myself as an upcoming Artist and Entrepreneur. Another major milestone would be to consistently obtain revenue for the pieces I have previously created and shared, as well my future works. I want this side hustle/small business to be the whole thing.. and with faith, persistence, and dedication it’s going to be everything! Stay tuned!
