We recently connected with Izzy Rawshdeh and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Izzy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I graduated college with a degree in radiology. I worked in the field for a while and then went on to work in the pharmaceutical industry. To be honest it was not my cup of tea, i did not enjoy what i was doing. Years later, i was involved in a car accident where i was severely injured and lost one of my finger int he process. As you can imagine i could not work for a while and became a bit depressed. The doctor advised me to exercise my hand in order to not loose mobility. I remember looking at a YouTube video of someone drawing. I thought to myself ” i can do that” two weeks after my surgery i created my first painting. Making art, i felt free! it was a great source of rehab for my hand and it made me feel happy again! I had something to live for! years later i got into the beauty industry as well. At first i would do both beauty services and art on the side and in 2019 i decided to quit my job in pharmaceuticals and open my own mural company as well as an onsite beauty Salon. It has been a blessing! now i make way more than i used to in my 9 to 5 and i truly love what i do. As i plus, i get the freedom to travel, which has always been a dream of mine.
Izzy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Like I mentioned before, I went from working 9 to 5 To deciding to quit and start my own beauty and Art company. With my beauty company I have a team of a girls that provide hair and make up services on location. With my our company I provide Residential and Commercial Murals that will are artsy and appealing to their guests or clients. Whether it’s beauty or art creative innovation as when we focus on. The service we provide is like none other, Because we truly feel passionate about what we do.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
I started by working on the side. Which was Very difficult as I have a newborn baby at the time. I would work my 9-5 And then come home to take care of the baby and later on at night to paint. On weekends I would do hair and make up for weddings for another company at the time and Weeknights I would go to paint at the gallery I was exhibiting in and co-opping. A lot of people thought I was absolutely crazy. But I knew the hard work would pay off. After a couple of years, I decided that the income I received in my side hustle was greater than my regular job. So I took a leap of faith and quit. It was the best decision I ever made. Within the first few months i trippled my monthly income.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I thought that having my own business would take a very long time and I would not be making any money. My parents are very traditional and I was taught that making money is hard. This is very untrue. It is all about the work that you put into it. How much do you really want it. If you work on something hard enough it will manifest.
