We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Izzy Mervine. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Izzy below.
Izzy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Growing up my favorite number was always ’13’, even though it’s considered unlucky. 13 was always the number I had on my jersey when playing sports. So when I decided it was time to turn my passion into a business I knew I needed to incorporate my favorite number. I wanted to come up with something different that would sound different from the rest, so I tossed up multiple ideas that included ‘thirteen’, and ‘Thirteen Frames’ just stuck.

Izzy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a child I was always fascinated with my parent’s camcorder and always wanted to film on it to get my point of view. Polaroids, film, and old photos always intrigued my young mind. When I turned 15, I was given my first DSLR from my parents. I started out with taking pictures of the flowers in my garden, my dogs and horses. Then, I started doing little mini photoshoots with my younger sister. Throughout high school I did photoshoots with friends and family working my way into my senior year of high school when I launched Thirteen Frames. Since starting my business, I have had the pleasure of working with some amazing clients with some awesome sessions. My favorite part of working with new clients and repeat clients is naturally making them feel beautiful in their own skin. If you come to a session with me, I promise you will leave feeling your most confident self. For potential clients, I am a new friend, being in front of a camera can feel so unnatural and staged. Allow me to break that ice.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Honestly, word of mouth has been the best source for new clients. I do a session with a friend and then they suggest me to one of their friends and it just snowballs to one referral after another.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building an audience takes time and patience. Posting on a consistent basis and making sure to use fitting hashtags to bring in the correct viewers to your post.
