Izumi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?

since I moved to San Diego from LA a year half ago, I had no one to know here except one friend we met in LA long time ago and we reunited in San Diego after almost 7 years . she has run her own beauty salon in San Diego. I asked her for any advise as business owner on starting my own business first then she introduced me some of her clients and friends.
Also, some people are starting to be interested in my business little by little though social media.

I think social media would be the first one to get new client who never met, but I’ve been impressed more than anything by people -to-people connections since I started my own business.
for example , someone bought my bento box, gave it to their friends as gift , and they loved it so much that they came to buy it by themself.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

My products are all home made . I mainly make Japanese style chiffon roll cakes in an eco-friendly wooden Bento Box .
All are made by my original recipe , high quality and simple ingredients are used as well.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

I lost one of my best friend recently by cancer who was very first person I talked about a plan of starting my own business. we didn’t see each other often , but she was always by my side mentally sometime physically .

She always told me to work and learn for my own future .
the way of her life definitly made me to pivot my life to keep doing things I love constantly .

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

As a mother of the kids, I used to think I had to do everything for their happiness even if its sacrificing my self sometime but ,now I’m more focus on my own wealth of life which leads to the happiness of others I believe. it could be starting my own career or doing new things I ever done that I wanted to try.
