Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Izayah Grace. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Izayah , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I pursued my craft as a fashion designer by attending fashion school. I chose this path because I wanted to gain a thorough understanding of the industry from an educational perspective. I believed that school would help me develop the essential skills I needed and teach me how to make my creative vision marketable.
During my time as a student, my pursuit of perfection became a significant challenge. I made things harder for myself by focusing too much on achieving perfection, rather than on developing the necessary skills to bring my vision to life. In hindsight, I realize that if I had listened more and followed instructions better, the process could have been much easier.
One of the key lessons I initially overlooked as a student was the importance of problem-solving. In any creative field, finding solutions to challenges is crucial. Once I grasped this concept, I began to see my growth and started achieving new milestones for myself.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a Jersey native with a lifelong love for art. Being creative has always come naturally to me, and over the years, I’ve developed a strong interest in various creative fields. In middle school, I taught myself graphic design on Photoshop, using this skill to create MySpace layouts. However, in high school, my focus shifted when I started drawing on clothes and shoes. I became so passionate about designing shoes that I believed I would one day have my own shoe brand.
As I explored life in my early adulthood and spent a lot of time in New York, my interests broadened. I realized that I didn’t just want to design shoes—I wanted to design clothes too. I envisioned myself sewing my own garments and building a luxury brand that people would love worldwide.
Currently, I’m creating custom clothing for clients, working as a creative director for music videos and photoshoots, and styling. My ultimate goal is to establish my own streetwear brand, “Izayah.” The creative direction and styling work I do now is both fun and a way to develop myself while helping others bring their visions to life. I take pride in my ability to merge different styles in a way that makes sense, setting my work apart from others.
At this early stage of my career, I’m most proud of the risks I’ve taken over the last few years. I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone, tried new things, and believed in myself to complete the projects I start. The joy I see in my clients when they’re happy with the final result and the memorable experiences we create together make me the proudest.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The only goal driving my creative journey is to establish a household name in the fashion industry. Developing a brand that embodies my vision would be a life-changing achievement. I’m determined to reach the masses and impact fashion in a way it has never been impacted before. My aspiration is for people to connect with my interpretation of streetwear and, perhaps, even adopt it as their own blueprint.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is that there’s no right or wrong way to do things. Everything I create is simply my version, my unique perspective. I have the freedom to express my uniqueness in whatever way I choose, whether I aim for perfection or embrace imperfection. It’s incredibly liberating not to follow the industry’s standards. Feeling free and being happy with my work is what truly matters, and it’s what most creatives strive for—FREEDOM!
