Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Izabela Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Izabela thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
Where do I even begin? My parents truly excelled in so many aspects. I am deeply thankful for the nurturing environment they provided me with and the exemplary role models they’ve been. One significant aspect for me is the immense trust they placed in me and my choices, coupled with their unwavering support throughout my journey.
Their backing has played a monumental role in shaping my life, influencing who I am today and where I stand. Born and raised in Bulgaria, at the age of 20, I embarked on what would become the adventure of a lifetime: participating in the “Work & Travel Program” in the US during my college years.
This program, designed to offer foreign students exposure to American life and work culture during their summer breaks, allowed me to work for three months between May 15 and October 01. Following the program’s conclusion, participants typically enjoy a grace period of around 30 days to explore the United States.
Despite my parents understandable concerns about me venturing alone to the other side of the world, they wholeheartedly supported my decision.
I remember my dad asking, “Do you think you know enough English?” to which I replied, “I believe so.” Looking back now, the answered should have been “No” . That’s why I’m so proud of the progress I’ve made. I distinctly recall my initial summer in the US, struggling to comprehend conversations around me all the time. I worked as a server at a busy restaurant in a touristy area in Madeira Beach, FL, and I often found myself pondering, ‘What are they saying?’ The slang presented a significant challenge, prompting me to invest numerous hours and fill countless notebooks with diligent study to improve my understanding.
Participating in this Work & Travel Program turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made. I participated in it for three consecutive summers while completing my bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Eventually, I made the move to Florida permanently.
Throughout this pivotal period, my parents’ support was my anchor. They taught me responsibility from a young age, encouraged me to make my own decisions, and empowered me to take ownership of my actions. I can never express enough gratitude for the invaluable principles and morals they imparted to me, all while allowing me the freedom to grow and learn on my own terms. That as well as all the experiences I’ve had in my life have proven to me that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. This is the mindset I aim to instill in my daughter as well—to empower her with the same beliefs and determination.
Izabela , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been a full-time artist and muralist for a year, a blessed mother for four years, and a firm believer in the transformative power of gratitude forever. I specialize in commercial and residential murals, as well as fine art canvas pieces using acrylic, and I consider my work a fusion of passion and purpose.
I’m 31 years old, born and raised in Bulgaria and currently living in beautiful St.Petersburg, FL.
I’ve been passionate about art ever since I can remember but I’ve never thought I’d choose art as a career until my creative journey was sparked by life’s unpredictability. The profound loss of my spouse set the course for my career. In the midst of grief, I turned to painting as a means of healing, creating pieces in the quiet of the night, mostly for my one-year-old daughter. It didn’t take long for me to realize that art was my calling, a path I needed to pursue as a livelihood.
My passion for art is driven by my desire to create happiness for my customers through my creativity and to spread positive energy through my paintings, prints and murals.
When I’m not immersed in mural projects, I’m busy creating art in my studio. My work involves a blend of commissioned pieces for individuals and businesses, alongside personal projects that contribute to various collections. Inspiration surrounds me, leading me to explore diverse themes in my paintings. A big part of which is nursery artwork.
Beyond traditional canvas work, my heart lies in mural art. There’s a profound satisfaction in standing before a blank wall, knowing that my creativity and unique skill set will transform it into something enchanting, capable of stirring deep emotions in those who encounter it.
Passion fuels everything I do, but what truly sets me apart is my fusion of artistic talent with a keen business acumen. Armed with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, I understand the intricacies of building a successful art career. For me, customer service and excellence in performance are non-negotiable standards.
Yet, what I cherish most about my work is the connections forged with my clients. It’s a privilege to step into their world, leaving behind a touch of magic that enriches their space.
Above all, I take immense pride in my gratitude for life and my unwavering belief in manifesting one’s desires. I firmly believe in the abundance of goodness and support that exists in the world.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
One of the main reasons I’m on this creative journey is to teach my young daughter and the people around me the importance of chasing your dreams. I believe everyone should have the chance to pursue what they’re passionate about and enjoy a life filled with freedom and love for their work. Being true to yourself and doing what you do best, what you’re truly passionate about, is key to living a satisfying life.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
A defining moment in my journey that showcases my resilience was definitely the loss of my significant other. My daughter was merely a year old then, and it was during this challenging time that my creative journey began. I started creating artwork specifically for her, focusing on mother-daughter themed animal pieces. The bond between us served as my source of healing. As I painted various pieces for our home, a realization dawned on me one morning – this was my calling. I yearned for the freedom to be there for her every step of the way. That epiphany solidified my decision to pursue artistry, not only to follow my passion but also to demonstrate to her that she too can forge the life of her dreams.
