We caught up with the brilliant and insightful “IZA” The Artist a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi “IZA” , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Right now, my “Wake & Make Collective” brand is my most meaningful project that I’m constantly working on. Wake & Make started as a mantra I would share almost everyday. The intention behind it was initially to motivate myself to wake up and create.
It soon became something that inspired fellow creatives to do the same no matter what their craft was and it just continued to grow from there. It lead to hoodies and more merch being made for creatives everywhere.
Now I’m currently working on bringing the brand back to life in a much bigger way, hoping to inspire more along the way.
“IZA” , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m IZA, a multidisciplinary artist originally from Ohio. I try to create work that often follows a theme of growth, identity, empowerment, etc. using a lot of floral elements. Being able to create art that can resonate with people from all walks of life is always a goal of mine.
My work is a reflection of where I’ve been, and a vision of where I’m growing.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of the biggest rewards I get from being an artist is when I share a piece I’ve created and it resonates with whoever took the time to look at it. Whether they felt the same as I do when I see my own piece or they developed their own interpretation of it. As long as my art can make you feel something, it’s a win to me.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Besides continuing to push “Wake & Make Collective” to new levels, my main goal is to hopefully do a lot more murals and large scale pieces. Being able to do murals professionally has always been a dream of mine. I’ve only done a couple so far, but I’m itching for the chance to do a lot more.
