We recently connected with Ivorie Weatherspoon and have shared our conversation below.
Ivorie, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Having a purpose is important. I believe without a purpose or a drive there’s nothing to push you to keep going. What’s also is important is consistency. I see a lot of businesses that might not be that good and what they do but they are very consistent. I know a couple of YouTube influencers and photographers that were very consistent and they’re very successful now.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
When he was everywhere this phone and I’m a photographer / videographer. I used to work at this company and I got injured. Refrigerator fell from the second floor on me. That left me with no income. I found this camera that I had for a few years now. It was a Nikon something but at the time when I bought it I thought it was a very expensive camera. It was like $300. I started taking pictures of random things and some people. Started commenting said that I had an eye for it and they thought it was very good. So this one family asked me to do a family portrait outside. I did and they were my first client. They love the pictures and experience. I started studying more about how to take pictures and the camera that I had. Realizing that my camera was not that good at all I upgraded to a Nikon 5500, and a flash. Then it was on. I started getting all kinds of Bookings and everything. I then Started getting into videography, I started doing Lots of music videos And a couple of commercials. Still dealing with my back I’m still able to do a videos and photography even today. One of the problems that I heard that clients had was the turnaround. So I did my turnaround very fast meaning giving the client their photos quickly. Clients love the creativity and the turnaround rate that I provide. They love how comfortable then I make them feel in front of the camera, which is a big deal.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding is to see and hear the response of my clients. It’s very hard for me to charge because of something that I love to do. Which is also something I had to learn how to do. But creating memories for families and individuals to have for a lifetime.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
So there are a lot of photography workshops. I didn’t know about them I was learning stuff on youtube. I wish I would have learned about that when I first started out. That would have helped me grow and have a better experience in learning.
