Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ivetta “Eva” Lassey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ivetta “Eva”, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
As a physical therapist and mother of two, I have always been passionate about helping people, especially children. When my team and I decided to start our own company, DrSensory, we were driven by two main questions: How can we make a meaningful impact with our education? How can we reach parents and individuals seeking therapy-related answers? This passion guided the vision for our company. Despite always feeling that DrSensory is in its early stages due to continuous innovation and updates, we are committed to its growth. These early stages involve long hours, doing what we can independently, and hiring strategically for aspects of development that we are unable to do on our own. We realized the importance of creating an easily accessible website for those in need of therapy services and resources. In collaboration with Irina Shvaya, Founder of eSEOspace, and Dr. Yana Pekarski, owner of Sacramento Holistic Dentistry, we began the process of bringing our vision to light. In hindsight, developing our practice management software, TheraPro360, prior to founding DrSensory may have aided in achieving our aim of simplifying access to therapy services. However, we recognize that creating is a dynamic process driven by time and ideas, and we are enjoying the journey of growing and innovating our company. To young professionals contemplating starting their own business, I advise not to hesitate, even if it means taking a small step towards your vision. Initial ideas may evolve, and the company will undoubtedly change, but embarking on the journey is often the biggest hurdle. Building a company demands time, energy, and passion—if you possess these, you have a solid foundation.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Growing up in a family of 11 children, I was always surrounded by kids – I believe this is what fueled my passion of helping children thrive in today’s world. Witnessing how many parents and children have challenges with access to therapy services motivated us to create DrSensory. After earning my doctorate in physical therapy, I thoroughly enjoyed a career dedicated to helping patients improve their physical health in outpatient, inpatient, and home health settings. Reasons that parents would provide as to why their children are unable to get therapy services included reasons such as therapy being too expensive, the therapists who could help were not available in rural communities, or parents simply did not know where to look. Our comprehensive resource center at www.drsensory.com offers invaluable support to parents, educators, and individuals diagnosed with sensory processing disorders, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and more. We help with seeking answers to all therapy questions related to child development, therapy services, and specific diagnoses. We hope DrSensory can equip people with strategies to navigate and overcome various challenges.
Upon founding DrSensory, it became clear to us that telehealth options were essential for extending care to children and parents who have limitations of actually getting to therapy. Introducing therapy telehealth options improved our reach and inspired us to develop TheraPro360 to bring more therapists to the DrSensory family of readers. Our goal was to create a software that is easy to use, simplifies everything needed to run a practice, and encourages therapists to utilize the telehealth options we provide. TheraPro360’s practice management software makes managing therapy practices easier by making scheduling convenient, simplifies documentation, offers telehealth capabilities, makes billing processes easier, and more. Integrating this software with the ability of having therapists listed on our DrSensory Therapist Database allowed our vision of giving parents better access to therapy services for their children possible. Creating DrSensory highlighted the need to establish TheraPro360’s extensive therapist features for managing practices, a challenging yet rewarding task. I am most proud of the fact that my team and I were actionable with our vision to create DrSensory and TheraPro360. We believe in our work and can see the growth and impact these resources have. We hope to improve access to therapy services for all people and for more therapists to step out into the realm of telehealth services to accommodate the needs of those who do not have easy access to therapy.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back, I would most definitely choose my career again. I have always said that God’s plan for my life is better than any plan I could come up with for myself. Although being in the medical field was always my plan, being a physical therapist was not on my heart until a year after graduating with my bachelors in Human Biology from University of California, San Diego. Being a physical therapist has led me to my current state of Nevada to attend UNLV PT school, to my husband, to our Hope Church family, to my two fulfilling current jobs here in Las Vegas, and to now having the professional expertise needed to start DrSensory and our therapy practice management software, TheraPro360.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Other than training and knowledge, I think one of the most important things needed to be a physical therapist and loving your career is to care for people. Being in a career that is made to help the human body as a whole, we are also the person that people turn to with their life stories, aches and pains, joys and celebrations, and with their worries. We are in a position that allows for more time spent with people, allowing us to listen and help each person individually from a holistic perspective. Being compassionate and empathetic are crucial for this role. When considering my further endeavors of founding DrSensory and creating our software TheraPro360, I believe that having a mission and passion for creating change and helping others is vital.
