Today, we’d like to introduce you to Ivan Shatrov. Ivan was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Olga Shatrova.

Ivan, can you walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Perm, a city in the Ural region, in an ordinary family. From an early age, I was passionate about music and dreamed of becoming a professional musician. I played the piano and guitar, but in my hometown, the music scene was underdeveloped. For a long time, music remained my beloved hobby. After high school, I enrolled in a construction college, where I joined a student band. It was there that I learned to play the drums, the instrument I truly wanted to master.

After college, I pursued a degree in Psychology at the university, while continuing to play music with various bands. Over time, I realized that the local music scene had its limits, and I felt I had reached my ceiling. That’s when I decided to move to Moscow, the capital. In Moscow, my musical journey reached a new level. The rock band I was part of began to gain popularity. Over a few years, we recorded a couple of albums at well-known studios, performed at the most popular Russian festivals, and held several solo concerts.

By this point, I had been playing rock for nearly 10 years. So you can say I’ve always been drawn to art and creativity. I felt the need to explore something new, so I decided to enroll in the College of Improvisational Music to study jazz. It was there that I met Olga.

I’ve been a professional musician for as long as I can remember. Music has always been my passion. But in 2015, after marrying Olga Shatrova, I noticed something remarkable. From the moment we met, I was captivated by her sense of beauty—how she dressed, how she combined colors, textures, and jewelry. This was the foundation of our personal and professional partnership. Olga was working a regular job, but in her free time, she was creating stunning jewelry. People—friends, acquaintances, colleagues—kept coming back to her, asking for custom pieces. Yet, despite all this activity, she wasn’t making any money from it. I saw potential. I suggested we turn her talent into a business, and that’s how the Olga Shatrova brand began.

In the early days, my role was clear. I took on the responsibility of managing the business side—handling paperwork, strategy, and marketing. Olga, with her incredible eye for design, focused entirely on creating jewelry. Together, we formed a strong partnership, combining her creativity with my business acumen. It wasn’t easy, especially in Russia, where the jewelry industry is heavily regulated. Navigating new laws and regulations was a constant challenge. But we pushed through, driven by a shared vision.

Our biggest leap came when we moved to the United States. Immigrating to a new country brings its own set of challenges. We had to learn how business works here, understand cultural differences, and figure out what makes American clients tick. It wasn’t just about business; it was about adapting to a new way of life. But through it all, our passion for jewelry kept us going.

One of our proudest achievements was securing the EB-1A visa, which is granted to individuals with extraordinary abilities. It was a long, detailed process, but worth every effort. This visa places Olga in the company of Nobel laureates and Olympic champions. It was a recognition of her talent and our brand’s potential.

This year, we’re expanding. Up until now, we’ve focused on unique, hard-to-replicate pieces due to the rarity of the gemstones we use. But now, we’re launching a new line of Fine Jewelry. These pieces will be more accessible, yet still limited edition. It’s an exciting new chapter for us, allowing more people to experience the artistry and craftsmanship of the Olga Shatrova brand.
