We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ivan Lotus. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ivan below.
Hi Ivan , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Our current album recording with Lotus Collective has been our most meaningful project of my music career thus far. It’s the first time that I am so invested, energetically, physically and spiritually and it has made me push my career to a next level. It feels like the beginning of many exciting things in life. It’s meaningful because it’s my first full album and it’s alongside a producer that is literally my dream producer. His name is Cheo Pardo, producer of one of my favorite bands Rawayana and former guitarist of Los Amigos Invisibles.
Ivan , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a musician, mainly guitarist and singer. My band is called Lotus Collective and we play jazz funk. We are a Collective of musicians that believe in flourishing despite any circumstances in life and our music is the expression of our personal and spiritual resilience. We just recorded our first album coming out in 2025.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When we found our current producer, it felt like a life changing opportunity. At the same time, it was a challenge economically and organizationally for the band. We needed to get our business together to make this happen. We jumped into the unknown and agreed to record an album without the financial means to do it. We trusted that we would have enough live shows and gigs to cover for the cost of the album. Since July 2024 until December, we covered more than 100% of the total cost for production.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Understand that music, although it’s nowadays available and “free”, there’s an energetic exchange that occurs with music. Any art deserves to have the means to thrive and multiply forever, like nature and fractals. It’s the way of life. Music is no different. Society can help artists by not only nurturing those brave enough to embody the artists journey, but to wake up to the realization that humanity is inherently creative.
