We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Itzi Calle. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Itzi below.
Itzi, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success can take many forms, and it’s something we each define for ourselves by choosing our own paths. We live in a time where opportunities feel endless, with access to so much information. But to be successful, the first step is deciding where you want to succeed. Once you have a vision, you move toward it, and life gradually brings you closer to it, step by step. It’s like planting a seed—your vision—and allowing it to grow. The key is to enjoy the process. If you stay present and persist through the challenges, you’ll grow stronger, and that strength will be your success. You’ll feel it deeply, and you won’t need anyone else to define it for you.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I began my creative journey in Barcelona, working for MANGO during the launch of their first e-commerce platform. It was fascinating to witness how the industry was rapidly shifting towards online sales. Selling products through images allowed me to tell a story, which quickly became my favorite part of the work. I take a product and craft a narrative around it—a story that resonates with the consumer and makes them see the product in a new light. It’s a completely different experience from simply picking clothing off a rack in a store.
As a Creative Director, I thrive on the limitless potential for storytelling that both images and videos offer. This passion for visual storytelling is what drove me to move to New York, where I could further refine my skills. New York City is brimming with stories, and it has been a constant source of inspiration for my creativity.
I’m currently embarking on an exciting new adventure as the Creative Director for FEMALE FORM, a New York-based brand, along with its sister brand, Ringland by FEMALE FORM. FEMALE FORM opened its first retail location in 2021 and has since expanded to four stores. Now, with me joining the team, they’re ready to embark on a creative journey into online sales—and they have so many stories to tell! The brand is vibrant, playful, and fresh, and I can’t wait to share all the exciting stories we’ll create together.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
If there’s one lesson I’ve had to unlearn—and I’m still unlearning—it’s the need to please others and constantly do things for them. It’s so important to be authentic, to embrace your true self, and to support your own uniqueness and point of view. I’ve realized that assertiveness is key to growth—it lifts you up. There were times, especially when working for large corporations, when I was told to do things that didn’t make sense or align with my instincts. I did them anyway, and it never felt right. In the end, I would often be blamed when things didn’t go as expected.
That’s when I decided, early in my career, that I would always speak up. I’d stay true to my vision and talent, and call things out when necessary.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
To be able to express yourself. Even when you’re working for another brand or company, you’re still drawing inspiration from within—from your own life and experiences. As a creative, you carry your unique perspective with you wherever you go. It’s a role that allows you to be authentically you, and bring all your experiences into everything you create.
