We recently connected with Itstheehoneyy and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Itstheehoneyy, thanks for joining us today. We’ve love to hear an interesting investment story – what was one of the best or worst investments you’ve made? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment I ever made, was in myself. I was always trying to “start” something when I was a kid. From cheer camps, to art classes, to groups. I’ve always thought about making money from a young age, and the best ways to do so. I’ve been composing music for years now, however making money off it never crossed my mind until I graduated high school. I have a genuine passion for all things musical, so it’s truly my happy place to create and perform. Even to this day, if I made $0 off my music, I wouldn’t stop.
I used to record myself, lookup YouTube “how to’s” and just try things. I had NEVER been to a studio before, or even considered it with my anxiety. I started seeing other women online and on tv, realistically thinking “ there just like me “ or “ I could do all that but better “ it was so frustrating to me. I realized they had money, and teams, goals behind them and business moves. I wanted the same but more.
I finally decided to pay for my first studio session. I googled studios nearby, found a black owned one & booked it. It was $25 for an hr. I went up there alone, knew no one. I had never recorded with anyone but myself, let alone knew the “studio slang “. I was out of my element. I used to be SO nervous, scared to sing, scared to make a mistake, I wasn’t comfortable, it was rough in the beginning. Little did I know that $25 I spent would have changed my life FOREVER.
From session, to learning, to performances, to the music, EVEN the production everything costs. I started dumping my last penny into me. My clothes, music videos, all my social media platforms, shows, features, blog posts, advertising, placements etc. I had no idea what I was doing, but I did what felt right. I started going to different studios more & branching out. Met many friends, started to come out my shell the quickest I had ever seen.
I have had nothing but amazing experiences & growth on this journey. I am beyond blessed & grateful. I encourage all people to love & push themselves. Take a chance on YOU. I’ve made my biggest accomplishments all by betting & investing in myself. I still pour my everything financially into me and my music and I don’t see myself stoping any time soon or at all. I believe if you are truly your biggest fan, & trust yourself enough to put money behind you. You will flourish.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m @itstheehoneyy on all platforms. Born and raised in round rock TX. I’m a fully independent artist, and publicly I have been making music for a year now. I started off with my guitar & keyboard at home. I now can compose and perform almost any genre of music. I’m a singer/song writer before anything, but I also rap, dance, act, own a business & more. I’ve always wanted to be able to do more than just 1 thing.
I threw myself into this creative community unknowingly. It started with covers at home, to studio sessions, to performances, to releasing an album, to the interviews, and so on.
I try to stay focused and literally only involve myself in music & or positive things. I cut out all my stressors and negativity so I could focus on what I loved. I found my peace within the music. I found my home. Once I jumped in I never looked back.
I’ve always considered myself to be different. From my personality to my work ethic. I view life like a game. If you know how to play, you can win. You just have to LEARN how to play correctly. I TRULY try to be the best version of myself at all times. I want to spread nothing but love and hope & help how I can. I have nothing but good intentions for my family, fans , followers and myself.
I want all my followers and clients to know I TRULY am appreciative for everything they do. I’m raising awareness for domestic violence through my voice & I will not be quiet.
I promise to continue to give you guys my heart and soul. Expect nothing but amazing music, fun moments, quirky jokes & a big smile. I love being able to share my life and growth with others. Even this article has been a blessing, nothing but a good experience. I’m so appreciative
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist are the people & connections I make. Ive always valued connections but I definitely underestimated the amount of love I would be able to spread through my art. I’ve seen and connected with individuals through my music I would have NEVER talked to without. From singing for the elderly, or patients at the hospital, to kids running up asking who I am am, I love being able to make someone smile or feel a way because of my words and sound.
If I can help someone that had a bad day, mission acomished. If I can
Blend and learn and laugh with other communities through music, mission acomplised. I have SO many amazing memories and stories I’ve made and heard along my journey, it still amazes me to this day & could bring me
To tears how truly wonderful the world and my music family are. Music brings people together. I am
Here for it.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media was new to me when I first started. I was never big on Facebook or Twitter, didn’t have a clue what I was doing other then posting random pics. For me, it was really trial and error. We all always see the models, and personalities with 1000’s of followers and reactions. I never understood how they got To that point. I didn’t even post my music until last year.
I started posting myself more, putting more effort into how it actually
Came out and looked. I saw results instantly. Then I started interacting with my followers, replying to
EVERYONE, reaching
Out for collabs, or shout outs, promo, doing anything I could to bring attention To myself as well as make a connection 1 on 1 with someone.
My profiles and pages started to flourish, and never stopped. I learned you just have to keep doing things and have reasons behind them. There is a HIGH demand for entertainment. People Scroll on there phone 24/7 all day. I needed them to be watching me. I quickly realised I had to create more, post constantly, join different major platforms etc. The true definition of networking. Everything helped me grow a true fanbase much quicker then I had expected.
