We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful ITS JUST NIA. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with ITS JUST NIA below.
ITS JUST NIA, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had started sooner?
Music and singing was something I was ALWAYS passionate about. Something I always loved doing when nobody was around and in my alone time. I started taking music seriously back in 2022. At the time, I still was in a creative pursuit of being a makeup artist. Until I got into a relationship, and who I was dating at the time would record his music at my house, I was always in awe and inspired every time i would watch him record. And one day he finally encouraged me into getting in front of the mic, and “just say something”. And from that moment I fell back in love with music and discovering how to record, write music through journal prompts, poetry, and storytelling. I believe in divine timing, I think my ‘coming home’ moment to music was the perfect timing. I think my stories prior would have lacked depth and intention, and authenticity. I pride myself on being intentional and being able to allow people to FEEL the music rather than listen. I genuinely have no idea where I would be today if I wasn’t in that relationship and he didn’t get me in front of that microphone! I would probably be back in Seattle still pursing makeup. So shoutout to my Ex, cause I wouldn’t be where I am at today if you didn’t encourage me sing a few lines in that microphone.

ITS JUST NIA, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Vibrational Soul Artist.
I want to create a vibrational shift in the world through my music. As a spiritual coach and healer, I weave my life experiences and insights into my songs, addressing topics that promote self-discovery and inner transformation. I believe that by exploring these deeper themes, we can foster a sense of unity and connection, reminding ourselves that true change begins within. My music is not just meant to be heard, but experienced and felt. Its a unique blend of artistry and spiritual guidance. Listeners can expect to be moved, and empowered to connect with their own inner strength and wisdom. I take immense pride in being a source of light in a world that feels often dark. My music reflects love and positivity, and that truly is what motivates me everyday. Connecting with people through conversation and music is incredibly fulfilling for me. So to be able to combine the two truly ignites my soul. I think it took me a couple years from 2022, when I first started creating music to figure out my branding for my music, but I quickly realized that its really just an extension of me. My friends and family listen to my music, and are able to identify personal stories I have shared with them and see me beautifully translate it into my music. I want listeners to feel empowered to engage with my music when they’re truly ready for change. It’s about embracing transformation on your own terms. My music/experiences has helped me face myself, and I want to inspire others to do the same, as that can be a powerful, even transformative experience.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
There’s no magic formula for making music. At one point, I got caught up into relying heavily on a basic song structure because that’s what a lot of industry writers do. I love a good verse, hook, verse, bridge, hook type of songs. But I started feeling like it was getting a little generic for me. I would make songs and be like wow I feel like I’ve heard this before, but also wanted to push myself to scribble outside of the lines. I believe that songs that break away from traditional structures can be just as popular. Especially when you are creating from true genuine expression. Trying to create what you think everyone else wants will hold and set you back. It stifles your creativity and can make you sound generic. The best music will always come from pushing boundaries, and creating without limits.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing about being an artist is seeing an idea come to life. It’s so amazing being able to take something from your imagination and turn it into something real that you can hear. Plus, it’s incredible when people connect with your music, even if they interpret it differently than you and are able to find their own meaning in it based on their own lives. Music creates human connection. It helps us realize that we’re all connected, even though our experiences are different. My music may reflect my own unique journey, but you can still relate because you’ve felt those emotions too. Being able to share that with listeners makes me feel that i’m making a impact. Even if it’s in small ways, it’d all about contributing to the greater good.
