Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Itale Watie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Itale, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
Adapting the education system to align with the trajectory of the economy is crucial for preparing students to thrive in a rapidly changing world. I remember being so confused and unprepared at my first job because I was not taught anything that pertained to the workforce. The education system should focus on future skills, technology integration, entrepreneurship, lifelong learning, career readiness programs, global perspective, financial literacy, and environmental sustainability. These skills are crucial in today’s economy, as automation, digitization, and globalization are becoming more prevalent. By incorporating technology, fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, and promoting lifelong learning, the education system can prepare students for the future and the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

Itale, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a photographer, I have been blessed with the opportunity to turn my passion into a lucrative career. My natural creativity and love for capturing moments propelled what started as a hobby into a career that allows me to not only follow my passion but also make a living doing what I love.
Dedication, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of excellence have defined my photographic journey. I’ve honed my craft over the years, experimenting with different techniques, mastering the intricacies of light and composition, and constantly pushing the boundaries of my creativity. Through my lens, I have the ability to tell compelling stories, evoke powerful emotions, and capture the beauty of the world around me.
But my passion for learning doesn’t stop with photography. I also embody the spirit of a “professional student,” always eager to expand my knowledge and skills in various fields. Whether it’s through workshops, courses, or self-directed learning, I am constantly seeking new opportunities to grow and develop as both an artist and an individual.
My thirst for knowledge extends beyond my own personal growth. I am also deeply committed to helping those around me, whether it’s mentoring aspiring photographers, sharing my expertise with others, or using my art to raise awareness about important social issues. I understand the power of education and collaboration in fostering creativity, innovation, and positive change.
In the eyes of many, I am not just a photographer but a “professional student”—someone who approaches life with curiosity, humility, and a genuine desire to learn and grow. My passion for photography and my dedication to lifelong learning inspire others to pursue their own dreams and strive for excellence in everything they do.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
As a solo entrepreneur, I am responsible for making pivotal decisions daily, including pricing strategies, marketing campaigns, client management, and creative direction. As a one-woman show, I have to balance my roles as visionary, executor, accountant, marketer, and customer service representative. The journey of entrepreneurship is not linear, and I have faced setbacks along the way. Despite these, I have persevered, learning to embrace failure as an opportunity for growth and adapting to unexpected circumstances.
My business may not be where I envisioned it to be, but I refuse to let setbacks define my journey. I understand that building a successful business takes time, patience, and persistence. I refuse to settle for mediocrity or succumb to the allure of comfort and security. I am willing to take risks, step outside my comfort zone, and embrace the challenges that come with pursuing my dreams.
The advancement I make each day, the lessons I take away, and the impact I have on other people’s lives are the indicators of my success. Knowing that every small victory brings me closer to my long-term objectives fuels my deep sense of purpose and passion for my craft.
While my business may still be a work in progress, I remain steadfast in my belief that it will get there. I refuse to give up, knowing that the journey is just as important as the destination.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Consistency in business, especially in photography, is crucial for client growth. It builds trust, maintains brand cohesion, establishes a strong online presence, and showcases growth and improvement. Consistent customer service and communication foster lasting relationships, leading to repeat business and referrals. Consistency also creates predictable revenue streams, allowing for better forecasting and expansion. Overall, consistency is a solid foundation for long-term success.
