We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Isis Mesa-Rubin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Isis below.
Hi Isis, thanks for joining us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
Wow, I love this question because I don’t think we reflect enough on the people who shaped us into who we are today.
What my parents gave me more than anything was a deep sense of safety. Safety to be myself. Safety to try things. Safety to fail. And safety to take risks because I always knew I had a home base to return to.
I don’t think I’ve ever articulated how profound that was for me as a child, to feel so deeply supported that I became brave enough to step into things that felt uncomfortable, uncertain, or hard.
Because of that foundation, I grew up believing I was allowed to explore, evolve, and pivot when something no longer aligned. It taught me to trust myself, to keep showing up even when things feel scary, and to not let fear make my decisions for me.
Looking back, I can see how much that shaped both my life and my career. So much of the work I do now is rooted in creating that same sense of safety for others. I support women during some of the most vulnerable and transformative moments of their lives, and I think a big part of why I’m able to hold space the way I do is because I first experienced how impactful it is to feel held and safe while doing hard things.
Whether that’s giving birth, changing careers, walking away from things that no longer serve you, or stepping into an entirely new chapter of life… having people who believe in you changes everything.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Isis Mesa-Rubin, and I’m a birth doula, certified lactation counselor, Lamaze childbirth educator, Body Ready Method® Pro, author, and founder of The Intuitive Womb. More than anything, I see myself as someone deeply devoted to supporting women and families through one of the most transformative seasons of their lives.
My journey into this work began through my own experiences with pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. Becoming a mother changed me deeply. It shifted the way I viewed myself, other women, and the power of birth. I came to understand that birth is not just a physical event; it is emotional, spiritual, and deeply formative. It can shape the way a woman sees herself for years to come.
That realization led me into this work. I saw how many women move through pregnancy and birth feeling disconnected from their intuition, fearful of their bodies, or unsupported within systems that often overlook the human side of care. I knew I wanted to help change that.
Since then, I’ve had the honor of supporting over 100 families through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and breastfeeding in home, birth center, and hospital settings. Through The Intuitive Womb, I offer birth doula support, childbirth education, lactation counseling, virtual birth preparation, and community-centered gatherings for women and mothers.
I’m also the author of Welcome to the World: A Doula’s Guide to the Magic of Birth, a children’s book inspired by my own children and my desire to help families talk about birth in a gentle, loving, and empowering way. I’m deeply passionate about changing the cultural narrative around birth and motherhood. I believe birth is a natural part of life, and when women are supported, trusted, and cared for, the impact ripples far beyond one family. It touches entire communities.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the community that has formed around this work. Watching women support one another, share openly, feel less alone, and step more confidently into motherhood has been incredibly meaningful.
At the heart of everything I do is the belief that women deserve to feel safe, supported, and deeply cared for as they move through pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. If there’s one thing I hope people take away from my work, it’s that birth and motherhood are not things women are meant to navigate alone.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
This is a very timely question because I am currently in the middle of making one of the biggest pivots of my life. This summer, my family and I are moving abroad to Madrid, Spain.
After spending years cultivating a beautiful community in South Florida and building something that feels deeply meaningful through my work, I’m about to step into a completely new chapter where, in many ways, I have to start again. There’s grief in leaving behind what’s familiar, the relationships we’ve built, and the life we created here. But there’s also so much excitement in choosing a life that feels aligned with the kind of future we envision for our family.
Tying this back to the gifts my parents gave me, I realize so much of my ability to make this leap comes from the sense of safety and confidence they instilled in me growing up. Throughout both my personal life and career, I’ve had to reinvent myself several times before, and each experience taught me that I am capable of rebuilding, adapting, and rising to the moment.
I won’t pretend it isn’t scary. The unknown always is. There are moments where I wonder how everything will unfold, what my work will look like in a new country, and how long it will take to build community again. But one thing I’ve learned in life is that I never want comfort to become the reason I don’t pursue what’s calling me.
Some of the most meaningful things in my life came from moments where I chose growth over familiarity. I truly believe that nothing worthwhile comes from always playing it safe. Sometimes you have to be willing to step into the unknown and trust yourself enough to figure it out along the way.
That’s the season I’m in right now. And while it feels vulnerable, it also feels deeply alive.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Honestly, I think the biggest reason I’ve been able to build a meaningful audience on social media is that I’ve tried to show up as myself.
In a world filled with algorithms, AI, trends, and highly curated content, what people are truly craving is authenticity. People want to feel something. They want connection. They want to know there’s a real human being behind the screen.
I built my audience by sharing openly about birth, motherhood, womanhood, and the experiences that genuinely move me. I didn’t focus on trying to sound perfect or creating content just for the sake of going viral. I focused on creating content that felt honest, meaningful, and aligned with my values. Ironically, I think that’s what allowed my content to resonate more deeply with people.
My biggest advice for anyone starting out is to stop trying to sound like everyone else. Your voice, your story, your perspective, and the way you make people feel are your greatest strengths. Being yourself will always attract the right people and the most aligned clients.
