We recently connected with Isis Christopher and have shared our conversation below.
Isis, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
The first time I earned money from my creative work was in 2019, and I can still remember the mix of excitement and disbelief I felt. The client was Yeroc Art by Corey C. White, and the event was The Connoisseur: Eat, Drink, and Paint.
When Corey approached me to be a part of it, I was both thrilled and a little nervous. I’d admired his work and the energy he brought to his events, so being included felt like stepping into a bigger creative world.
The Connoisseur: Eat, Drink, and Paint was a classy-casual evening—guests chatting over drinks, laughing, and painting while surrounded by good company. I was there with my guitar, performing a two-hour live acoustic set filled with soul, classics, R&B, pop, and even my own original songs.
I noticed people would get quiet when I started singing and playing. I was unsure how to feel but later realized it was because they were intently listening to the music… my music. As I continued through my set, I would see people nodding along, smiling, even singing with me. At the end of the night, a guest came up, thanked me for the music, and slipped a tip into my hand. It wasn’t just about the money—it was the realization that my music had moved someone enough to give back.
That small gesture lit me up inside. It was proof that my art had value in the real world, and it made me feel like I had truly stepped into my journey as a performing artist.
Corey slid me the payment for my services, and I felt like my dreams had moved from an idea in my head to something tangible. I went from singing in my bedroom to singing in front of other creatives. I left the event that night not just with payment in my hand, but with a deeper belief in my potential as an artist.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Isis, a singer, songwriter, and performer whose music blends soulful storytelling with etheric energy. My journey into music began as a natural extension of my capacity for expression—expressing myself was never my strong suit, but sharing my experiences through melodies seemed easier. During my undergrad studies at Fisk University, while studying biochemistry, I had the privilege to choose an elective class. I took a beginners piano class, and naturally my fondness for the instrument led me to using it as a tool to write my own songs. Along the way I picked up the ukulele, guitulele, and guitar. My musical prowess really took shape when I started performing at open mics around Nashville. The stage gave me space to find my voice, connect with people face-to-face, and build confidence as a performer and human being. From there, I was noticed by the community, and opportunities began to unfold naturally—word of mouth led to my first gigs, and I started collaborating with other creatives and songwriters, inspiring each other to grow artistically and professionally.
Through my artistry, I create original music that celebrates authenticity, vulnerability, and empowerment. My songs are designed to uplift, heal, and make people feel seen—whether they’re experiencing joy, love, or overcoming challenges. Beyond recording and live performances, I also share creative content that invites my audience into my world as an artist and inspires them to embrace their own creativity.
At the heart of what I do, I help my clients bring their musical ideas to life with clarity, professionalism, and soul. Many people know what they want their music to feel like but aren’t sure how to shape it into a finished product—that’s where I come in. I take the pressure off by offering the voice, the arrangements, and the creative direction to transform an idea into something polished and impactful.
For creatives, I provide services like demo singing, session vocals, and co-writing, which means they don’t have to worry about finding someone who understands their vision—I specialize in capturing it. For businesses and brands, I create custom songs and jingles that connect emotionally with audiences and leave a lasting impression. For live shows, I can serve as host, lead a band, or offer support as a strong background vocalist, elevating a performance and maintaining high energy. For those just starting their musical journey, I make learning ukulele or voice approachable and fun.
One of my unique talents is my keen ear for harmonies and vocal layering, which allows me to create textures that elevate a song and make it shine. Clients often tell me they’re amazed at how I can take their vision and bring it to life exactly how they imagined it, if not better. Beyond that, I make the process smooth, collaborative, and inspiring, which means my clients don’t just get a great end product, they enjoy the journey of creating it too.
I’m most proud of staying true to myself and my artistry, even in an industry that often pressures artists to conform. Every song I create carries my signature touch of soul, and I take pride in the fact that my music resonates with people from different walks of life.
If there’s one thing I’d want potential fans and supporters to know, it’s that my work is for them. My brand isn’t just about me—it’s about creating a space where people feel uplifted, free, and connected. Music is a universal language, and my mission is to keep speaking it in a way that brings people together.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the way music allows me to connect with people on a deeper level. There’s something powerful about taking a thought, a feeling, or an experience, and turning it into a song that others can see themselves in. When someone tells me that my music made them feel understood, lifted their spirit, or gave them the courage to express themselves, that’s everything.
I also love the freedom of creating—whether I’m writing, arranging vocals, or performing live, I get to step into a space where imagination and emotion meet. As a creative, I don’t just make music for myself—I create spaces of joy, healing, and authenticity for others. Knowing that my art can leave a lasting impact, even in small ways, is what keeps me inspired and grounded in this journey.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think one thing non-creatives might struggle to understand is that being an artist isn’t just about talent, glam, or inspiration—it’s about persistence, discipline, and putting your heart on the line over and over again. People often see the performance, the finished song, or the polished video, but they don’t always see the late nights at open mics, the hours of writing and re-writing, or the emotional energy it takes to keep creating even when no one’s clapping for you yet.
What keeps me going is the belief that creativity is bigger than me—it’s about serving others through my gift. Every song I write or sing is a piece of my journey, but it’s also an offering to someone who might need it. The struggle is real—self-doubt, comparison, financial uncertainty—but the reward is knowing that my art can shift someone’s mood, inspire them, or help them feel less alone. That’s worth every challenge.
