We recently connected with Isimemen Aladejobi and have shared our conversation below.
Isimemen, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
As a child of first-generation immigrants, my parents always wanted me to be a doctor. I studied diligently, however, when I was in college I failed Organic Chemistry and that was my wake-up call that I was destined for something else. I then took up Accounting and through my initial work on networking after graduation, I landed two job offers without even submitting a single application.
As I navigated the corporate world, I always felt a knot in my stomach, that somehow I was meant to be somewhere else, doing something else. I was unfulfilled, I knew there was something more for me.
By working on uncovering my purpose, leveraging the gifts that I have and going through my initial work on networking, I began to have clarity.
It took me 10 years to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, and that’s when it hit me – no one is teaching this to women who look like me. We’re left to figure this out on our own.
That’s when the idea of creating Fulfilled came to me – it shouldn’t need 10 years to figure out your purpose and calling. It shouldn’t take you a long time to live the life you desire and have the career of your dreams.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Isimemen Aladejobi and I am a Career and Business Growth Strategist and Founder of Fulfilled, a transformational coaching program for Black women and Women of Color. I have trained thousands of women on the subjects of mindset, purpose, and career growth. Through my program Fulfilled, I have worked closely with and coached hundreds of women on how to successfully navigate the complexities of being a minority in the workplace. Since the pandemic, I have helped women land over 5 million dollars in new salaries. It’s my dream to see every Black woman and Woman of Color be recognized for their value and be paid what they deserve.
I firmly believe that there is a way for women of color to climb the ladder of success, without being overworked and overwhelmed in the process. With Nigerian roots, I know a thing about helping Black women and women of color see themselves in such a way that translates to “I deserve more out of my career and out of my life.” I want to share how to successfully navigate around the complexities of being a minority in the workplace and how people of color can uncover their purpose, find clarity, walk in their purpose and calling, and redefine wealth for themselves and their families.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My community knows how passionate I am about helping them live rich and fulfilling lives. They see this through the webinars I host, the speaking engagements I do, and the kind of content I put out on social media. My brand is so much more than a business for me, I consider it my mission to reach and help as many Black women as I can find their purpose and live the lives they’re destined to live. I believe that if you help change a Black woman’s life, you don’t just help her, you also help her family and her community in the process.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’ll take it back as far as college when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to be. I had started on the medical school track and biology track and I thought I was going to be a doctor. I had always been an ace student but I failed Organic Chemistry 2. I’ve vever failed a class before, that was tough for me because I’d always done well.
After a lot of prayer and reflection, I learned that what I truly wanted was to be a businesswoman. So I began taking classes to get into business school. I applied knowing that I would start my major as a senior but I did it anyway and stayed an extra year.
I ended up leaving college with 2 job offers, interned in Australia and won scholarships as a business student.
I truly ended up winning in the situation and that what kickstarted Fulfilled. I never wanted another girl, especially a girl that looked like me to be in that level of confusion.
