We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ishani Vyas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ishani below.
Ishani, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I started my own in January 2o21. It took me a few months to get adjusted to be a business owner. I had to learn how to keep up with my appointments and find places to get my products to maximize the cost saving. It is one of the best decisions I made to have my own business as every decision that needs to be made for business are mine. I learn from my mistakes and always looking up for a way to improve my business. I have been able to travel more ever since I have owned my business to attend training classes to learn a new skill being a manicurist. During the pandemic I was not able to work due to restrictions of social distance and during those months I kept thinking everyday that should I open up my own business or keep working for someone else. The fear of failing and giving up on a consistency always lingered around me. I had enough client commitments to start slowly but definitely needed more. I created my Instagram page and my own website and started posting pictures of my work and start promoting in the area as well to get more clients. I provided promotions online if people booked their appointments with me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started my collage as business administration major but getting a degree and working at a blue collar job was never my dream. I have always been interested in artsy things. I decided to quit college and get a professional license as a manicurist. I have been a manicurist since 2016. I originally started my journey in Chattanooga Tn at a small nail salon where I worked as receptionist while I was attending Cosmetology school. I moved to California in November of 2017. It took me a year to find a place to resume my profession I specialized in. I worked at a nail salon in upland from 2018 until 2021. With challenges faced during the pandemic it always kept playing in my mind that instead of giving away my talents to work for someone else I can do this on my own. My husband always supported my dreams and pushed me to start on my own. I specialize in structure gel and Gel-X that supports healthier nails. I am always up for a challenge to perform new designs my clients they always request.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
My social media present within the community of my business location where I am always posting on any openings for the day and promoting discounts thru the certain time of the year has helped me grow my clientele. Providing referal discounts have helped me grow my clientele as well.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Word of mouth is an important in my profession. I have always treated my clients with upmost respect and make them feel fabulous via their nail art. From starting with 18 clients when I began now I am up to 50 clients. I spend extra amount of time to make sure I perform retention strategy to have my clients keep coming back. After every service I try to book their next appointment. All of my business is strictly appointment only as I value my clients and my time and this strategy has helped me grow my business as the clients are happy that when is their time for a service my focus is only on how to make them feel fabulous. I always leave enough time in-between services to compensate for any delays where I am not making my clients feel like they are rushed.
