We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Isaiah Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Isaiah below.
Isaiah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
I’m so blessed to be raised the way I was. Both of parents have been in the medical field their entire lives. My dad started working in a funeral home at 18 and ended up owning the ambulance service for my small hometown Ashland, OR until the city took it from him. He then started an air ambulance service that would fly patients to health facilities per the patients needs / treatment requirements. My mom was a paramedic for my dads ambulance and that’s how they met. She’s been an ER nurse for multiple hospitals in the PNW up until about a year ago where she now works from home for the VA. In short: my parents are both in the industry of serving/healing/helping others. We are all devoted lovers of God and see ourselves as His servants to make the world a better place by doing our part.
For me, the way to heal the world is through music. Named after the prophet Isaiah in the Bible, (meaning comes from the Hebrew: in wu, Yasayähü, Yeshayahu, meaning “Yahweh is salvation,”) I have always resonated with the responsibility to heal others with positive energy and God’s love. Music became my tool to convey that energy at a young age, giving credit as well to my Uncle Gil Rene who introduced me to the guitar & drums.
My entire family has a deep love for good, positive, feel-good music. I was raised listening to all of the classics, from Michael Jackson to Doobie Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Prince, Journey, and so many more (it’s hard to list all of the inspirations I take from.) God’s love was always the reason behind such strong connections to the music, and once I discovered my ability to tap into becoming a vessel for that energy, the whole world opened up to me.
Back to the point, the main thing I think my parents did right in raising me, was giving me the freedom to discover the beauty and positivity of life in my own natural way. I spent my entire life up until 18 (when I made the move to LA) in a log cabin 16 miles up the Highway 66 near Ashland. My life, or reality so to speak, was ultimately up to my own imagination. So having music to tell stories and express my emotions was EVERYTHING. I thank God and my family all the time for giving me such an open platform to create whatever life I wanted for myself, and it’s even more empowering that the path I’m on is God given and fueled.
In middle/high school I battled with severe depression and anxiety. So much so that I developed cystic acne in my face, which grew under my skin. I had to take medication (Accutane) to be rid of it. What I came to realize with age was that all of that anxiety was due to my sensitivity to all the energy around me. When I first started singing I was berated with negativity. Messages like “kill yourself, stop singing bro, you’re trash, end your life lol.” At a young age with little to no social experience, these words hit heavy on my heart. After studying energy healing and brain rewiring through Randy Veitenheimer and Dr. Joe Dispenza, I now see that we are all gatekeepers of energy. The human mind, where God exists, is so incredibly powerful-beyond our own comprehension-and I’m living proof.
I attribute everything I feel/know to God, my family and my early environment.
Isaiah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Isaiah Brown. I come from the mountains in Southern Oregon (born in Edmonds, Washington.) I released my first album at age 16 titled “Healing Hands,” which was recorded in my bedroom in Oregon with my vocals and lyrics, a Tascam 8 track recorder, a mic, and a guitar. I met my best friend Jadon shortly thereafter to help me mix/master the album. During high school almost every day after school we would make music together, and I never wanted to leave his studio/home. We went back and forth making music together when I had my first awakening that music is my calling and I really began to dive deep, learning everything I could about music / songwriting / instruments / production / Ableton everything. Gotta give a huge shout to Jadon (ZenAware check out his music) for expanding my horizons musically. I performed any chanced I could at talent shows, local venues, retreats and shows in Oregon and Washington before moving to LA. Jadon and I even toured Portland and Seattle (where we stayed in sleeping bags & air mattresses at my Aunt & Uncles home,) opening for popular DJs Great Dane, X&G, Walshy Fire of Major Lazer, etc. The short-lived tour we went on was something I’ll never forget, and an experience I plan to create for my future.
My love for performance blossomed furthermore during my Junior & Senior year of high school, where I would emulsify myself in theatre-plays and musicals-creating ideas & characters that I could embody and be the vessel of. This was my gateway to LA, when I applied to the American Academy Of Dramatic Arts and was accepted almost instantaneously. Dude I remember the moment I opened my phone to that email and I couldn’t have been more excited. I sprinted through the school halls shouting “IM GOING TO LA!” And so I did.
I spent a year in a 2 bedroom apartment with 4 other guys that we soon called the 303 gang (our unit # at the time.) I immediately set up a music studio with my bunk mates Will, Bobby, Angel and Dominic. All of which I still have contact with, though I wish we spoke more. We felt as though we were the new kings of LA, but who doesn’t in their first year living in the city of lost angels?
All this set aside, I decided not to complete my studies after the first year at the Academy and branched off onto my own hustle, pursuing the ever sought after career in music. Fast forward to present day, and the experiences have been with abundance. I have over 500 songs recorded in studios all around the country, performed at hundreds of venues across LA and beyond, and continue to push for a global tour around the world with sold out arenas!!
I’ve coined my genre of music as “Soul-Pop;” Popular music which resonates in the soul of one’s self and heart. It all circles back to the mission of healing the world.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
To this day as my primary source of income, I’m a certified and licensed independent contractor & home improvement salesperson in the Solar Sales Industry. Where you say ‘pivoting,’ i say adapting.’ I’ve worked for 3 separate companies now and the biggest thing I’ve learned about change is that it is usually for the better, or seems that way in the current moment. This is where trusting intuition plays a huge role. Life always comes with curveballs, like music, everything traverses on a wave or frequency. When I started solar I worked with a company called LGCY, then a chunk of people moved to create their own company which is now VITL, and from there I chose to separate myself into a smaller company with the individuals that opened the door to the industry from the beginning. Pivoting or changing your flow is CRUCIAL for success. Adapting to the environment/world around you is what separates humans from all other species. I think it’s pretty badass that we can tap into the energy of God and the universe to align ourselves with whatever our path is / what we truly need.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Information, knowledge and energy. The more I work on my craft the more I tap into the forces greater than me. I love being a vessel for God’s love and energy. Sometimes it feels like God speaks through me, heals through me. There’s really no other place I could get the information I have except from the Source: God. Seeing peoples mood change and energy lighten gives me so much fulfillment because I know I’ve done my job right. I’m merely a servant sharing blessings and positivity through loving music to the soul.
