We were lucky to catch up with Isabelle Trach recently and have shared our conversation below.
Isabelle, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I remember that choosing Cosmetology as my career path was a big risk at the time that I made the decision. I was all set to go to college and changed my mind at the absolute last minute, which came as a surprise to myself and my family!
I switched gears and enrolled in a licensure program soaking up everything I could about the beauty industry. 2 years after graduation, I started my own business, The Vanity House. Since then, I have worked with hundreds of amazing clients designing hair and makeup for weddings, special events, and photo sessions.
It took a lot of dedication to get where I am today, but I can certainly say that all of the risks came with reward!

Isabelle, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Being a hair and makeup artist for high stress occasions such as weddings and commercials comes with big responsibility.
It is my job to make my clients not only feel beautiful, but also comfortable and understood! Getting to connect with people on this level is an honor, but also takes a lot of skill and experience to do correctly.
You never know who will be in your chair, so it is important to be prepared and really understand the trade (carrying inclusive products, learning how to work with what you have, etc.)
I’m proud to service people from all walks of life and help them feel their best for important events!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Starting a business in the beauty industry took a lot of grit. I had to be prepared to be told no, travel often, and hustle to build a portfolio. I took almost every opportunity that came my way to build experience. I saw a quote about makeup artistry once that went something like “Work with 50 faces and you’re on your way. Work with hundreds of faces and you’re a pro.” I love this quote and can definitely agree to its validity!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I feel that sticking to my word has helped build my reputation in the industry. Show up when you say you will, dress the part, always practice sanitation and safety, etc! Both clients and other artists definitely take notice to these details. My best advice to any new artist would be to have impeccable soft skills. You can always learn how to be a good makeup artist or hairstylist, but your reputation will supersede you!
