We were lucky to catch up with Isabella Grewe recently and have shared our conversation below.
Isabella, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I have always been hesitant to do art professionally as I know it is a community that is hard to get into. Ever since I was young, I always loved to draw. It was one of my hobbies growing up, but I never thought I could make money from doing it. Then a year or two before college, I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to major in. I had always loved doing art, but I didn’t have the confidence to see if I could take it further than just a hobby. Eventually, my mother sat me down and we had a conversation about what I would major in when I went to college. That talk was very insightful to me, and when the conversation had ended I knew what I wanted to major in: Animation. Even better yet was that I knew I had my parents’ support behind me, even if they knew nothing about the world of art. I then knew I wanted to try to take art seriously, and that I did want to pursue it as a path professionally.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I just graduated from college in spring of 2025, with my animation/illustration degree. I have been doing art professionally before that, with most of my professional work being murals. I have done quite a few murals for Airbnb’s. It becomes a piece of artwork to brighten up the house, and make it a unique experience for guests. After graduating, I have been focusing on creating more animation. I also do lots of illustration, most of it being digital. Since I’ve graduated, I’ve been trying to explore with my art and improve my skills to be even greater.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
In my view, I think society should support and stand up for artists. Artists always seem to be struggling in the news, being overworked, under paid, etc. With AI also taking over the internet, it is scary to be an artist right now. If people supported real artists, it would actually allow us to continue to create.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think non-creative might struggle to understand everything that goes into creating art. It is a process to create, and it is different for everyone. For my journey, my art has changed a lot. Art is a way to express yourself and your emotions. My art has grown with me. I love creating, but it isn’t always as easy as it seems.
