We were lucky to catch up with Isabel Meijering recently and have shared our conversation below.
Isabel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
I got to where I am today through complete trust in the universe. I got accepted into Veterinary school after a tumultuous year in my personal life. This acceptance was “supposed to” be a light at the end of a very dark tunnel. Except it was not. I was miserable and I did not yet understand why. At the time, I had very little experience with any eastern medicine modalities or any energy work at all. I had just begun pendulum work and was a new student to yoga. That is it. I needed something to help me find my path. I felt a pull to go to a Reiki session to clear my head and so I went. I did not even really understand what I was doing; but I felt called to go. After my session with a very skilled practitioner, I said, “I am not going to Veterinary school.” My healer asked, “well, what are you going to do?” I laughed and responded, ” I don’t know, But I am miserable and I can’t do this anymore.” Driving home from that session, I asked the universe, what can I do that combines the western medicine training I have with my new found interests and passions for energy medicine and eastern modalities? The thought downloaded right into my brain-“acupuncture.” I had never even had an acupuncture session when I applied to school. Seriously. And yet, I had never been so sure of something in my entire life. It was in this moment that I learned to follow my heart, my intuition, and do what is best for me no matter what other people’s opinions were. I turned down my veterinary school acceptances and started making plans to move to Austin. I then sought out an acupuncturist and had incredibly success with anxiety, allergies and nervous system regulation. I have truly never looked back. That decision was the best decision I have ever made.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Admiring You Wellness is an acupuncture, cupping, coaching, tuina, microneedling and herbal medicine brand. I have a deep love for both eastern and western medicine, which started with my introduction to yoga and grew from there. I actually became a Kundalini Yoga Instructor while studying acupuncture. While achieving my Master’s in Acupuncture with a specialization in Chinese herbal medicine at AOMA, I also became a certified Tuina practitioner through the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia (AOBTA) and have a specialization in cupping therapy through International Cupping Therapy Association (ICTA). I love doing lots and lots of cupping. I graduated with my Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine through Pacific College of Health and Science. This program led me to specialize in mental health and pain management; physical pain from both acute and chronic injuries as well as emotional pain. My goal is to get patients functioning in their lives the way they have always wanted to, or have not been able to because of their pain. I noticed with many of my patients that they were needing a deeper release for emotional healing. I became certified in quantum time technique, hypnosis and somatic healing to have yet another approach to the human psyche. What truly sets me apart from other practitioners is how I blend all of these techniques together for each individual person. I also offer the psycho-emotional healing work separately if someone does not want needling or cupping. I would love for my readers to know that each session is about them. A session with me may include cupping, tuina, dietary recommendations, herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxa, ear seeds, somatic healing, coaching, personalized meditations or microneedling but we will always only do what you are comfortable with. This is your treatment, not mine. Everything I do, all of my techniques, all of my herbal products I make, everything is about bringing you back to self and giving you the power to know all of the answers are already inside of you. I am always so honored by the amount of trust clients have in me to help assist them in healing and removing blocks. I want nothing more than to see all of you living you best empowered life.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Authenticity and vulnerability. I have found that in the health and wellness field, clients want to know who I really am. They want to know how I have applied what I teach and practice to my life and for me to set an example. I do not practice anything I do integrate into my life personally. I whole heartedly believe in everything I do because I am a different person than who I was before I found all of the techniques I practice. I believe it is out of integrity to practice or sell something you would not do or use for yourself. My clients love having deep conversations with me about change, growth and goals. And I feel the exact same way; these conversations are so important for health and expansion. We must keep talking about how we are growing and evolving in order to inspire others and learn from each other. I learn from my clients all of the time. I do not have all of the answers, none of us are supposed to. That’s one of the reasons why we are here; to help each other and learn from other people’s experiences.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start?
I started my business when I was still in school. I started by doing cupping and tuina only and I would travel to different places and houses to see my clients. I did take out student loans for my school that helped me in the early months of my business. The travel life was fun for a while, and then it was time to starting thinking about a brick and mortar office. I then started working for someone else and 4 months later I also moved into an office space part time. This allowed me to have consistent income while building my own clientele. I did not go into credit card debt while starting my business nor did I take out a personal loan. I started off slow and steady and built from there. After 9 months of having both jobs, it was clear that my personal business could not grow any more until I had more space and time to do so. I left my job working for someone else and went full time for myself. It was a huge risk I was willing to take and believe I could do it. And I did. I worked hard and believed in myself the entire time, even when it was hard. I surrendered into the experience, advertised online, called up my friends and had great success. I am really glad I started my business in this way. I am also lucky to have amazing friends who own businesses and they were able to give me tips and tricks. I am so grateful to now be able to give other people my own advice after successful opening and running a business.
