We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Isabel Garcia a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Isabel , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
Darnell Miller and Bridget Richardson are the best bosses and mentors that have changed my life. Bridget is the Executive Producer and Darnell is the Creative Director at MaxStudios. Darnell is the most creative person that I know, he is always thinking outside of the box. It blows my mind all the ideas that he comes up with in order to help MaxStudios grow. Bridget is extremely organized and knows how to get things done. I met both of them my freshman year of college and they have guided me through these three pivotal years. I started my undergrad as an Education major, a decision I had made ever since I was in second grade. Once I started at MaxStudios it showed me the world of marketing, communications and social media. I fell in love with this, wanted to do this work and I thought about changing my major. This stressed me out because I am a Type A person and I had my whole life planned out. Changing my major would not be part of my plan! I talked to Bridget and Darnell about this and they guided me into making my decision. They both assured me and gave me great advice! I would have not made this decision if it was not for them. Now I love being a Communication major and I graduate with my degree in December!
Isabel , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being the Host of BOLD is being able to share other people’s stories. At the University of St. Thomas we have some amazing people and being the Host of BOLD allows me to highlight some of these people. For example, I interviewed Lucy Bautista, a Chemical Engineering student at UST. She does so much for the University so being able to share that with others is incredible. I love it when the guest later tells me how other people have come up to them saying that they learned so much about them in the episode.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I am graduating this December with my Bachelors in Communication! Because of this I can no longer be the host of BOLD since I will no longer be a student. This is so sad for me because I love this role. This has caused me to think a lot about what I want to do in the future. At the same time our intern that was the editor for BOLD got a new internship that was in his career field, so that left BOLD with no editor. This caused me to want to step up to the plate and take a swing at editing. I had taken one editing class at school and enjoyed it. So Darnell began to teach me more and now I host and edit all the episodes of BOLD. It turns out that I love editing and I want to turn it into a career. Once I graduate I will be going to a school of design in Spain to get certified in Adobe Premiere Pro.
