Isabel, appreciate you joining us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?

The exhilarating moment of my journey as an artist arrived with my inaugural exhibit in Chile back in 2002. An unexpected touch of sentimentality swept over me — the first patrons to buy my work were none other than my own parents. Amidst the buzz of the opening night, the gallerist approached me with a gleam in their eye, sharing the heartwarming news. It felt like the universe was offering a resounding nod of approval, affirming that I was unquestionably on the right artistic path.

Isabel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I am professional visual artist, primarily focused on mixed media painting. I was born in Chile in 1965, I have a degree on Graphic Design from University of Chile and I moved to Miami almost 20 years ago, in 2003, where I’ve been based creating art with an active participation in the Miami art scene and abroad. My work has been showcased at solo as well as group exhibitions and international Art Fairs across America, South America and Europe and is part of private collections in various parts of the world. Through psychic automatism, strive to create “one of a kind” paintings working with abstraction from poetics with lyrical expressive resources and forms that establish a more aerial space-time relationships, with surreal and dreamlike overtones.

Being a full-time artist comes with its fair share of struggles and challenges. For many artists, making a living through art can be a daunting task. The uncertain and often unpredictable income can cause financial stress, making it difficult to sustain a stable lifestyle. The competitive nature of the art world demands relentless dedication and perseverance. Artists constantly face the pressure of staying innovative and relevant, which can lead to self-doubt and creative blocks. Additionally, the lack of consistent recognition and appreciation for their work can take an emotional toll. Despite these hardships, I have been persistent in pursuit my passion, driven by my desire to share my unique perspective with the world and create something truly extraordinary.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

Engraved within the very essence of my creative odyssey is a single, resolute goal: to maintain an unwavering reservoir of vitality and well-being that mirrors my current state. The demands of my craft necessitate an abundant reserve of physical prowess, an unyielding mental focus, a relentless persistence, and an unfettered wellspring of energy. Through the symphony of daily effort, I orchestrate my existence, utilizing yoga as both a compass and a rhapsody to keep me steadfast on this transformative path. My wish is not merely a request, but a prayer to the universe – that I may continue to shape, toil, and conjure, even as the sands of time etch their graceful lines upon my being.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.

The enigmatic dance of time required to give birth to a masterpiece is a query that invariably finds its way to me. A question that I always get and if I dare to confess, ruffles the feathers of my artistic spirit. For, you see, this question resides within a realm of vagueness, akin to seeking the color of the wind or the taste of a dream. It’s a conundrum that seeks to shackle the ineffable essence of creation, attempting to gauge the worth of a creation by the mere strokes of the clock.

Indeed, the tapestry of valuing art, is a symphony far grander than the metronomic rhythm of hours and minutes. It is a delicate equilibrium that marries vision, emotion, skill, and an intangible essence that lingers in the spaces between brushstrokes. The final price woven into the fabric of a creation is an enchanting fusion of narrative, intention, the whispers of history, the melody of the artist’s journey, and the canvas upon which their soul dances. It beckons you to transcend the boundaries of the temporal and embark upon a voyage through the realms of perception, passion, and purpose.
