We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Isaac Rubio. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Isaac below.
Alright, Isaac thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
From a very young age, I was a fan of stories, comics, and animated movies. I would spend hours drawing my favorite Disney characters and fill my school notebooks with sketches. My dream was to become a comic book artist. When I first saw the movie “The Lion King” in theaters at the age of 6, I was blown away and knew that I wanted to bring my drawings to life. However, I didn’t realize that there were people who made a living creating animated films until years later when I saw a TV program that showed how animations were made. From that moment, I knew that I wanted to be an animator. Pursuing this career path presented challenges since there were no animation schools in my country, but I turned to the internet where I discovered books that helped me to understand the craft.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an animator, illustrator, and storyteller, with a passion for creating compelling visuals and bringing characters to life through animation. Drawing has always been a way for me to express myself and tell stories. After attending art school, I began my career as a freelance illustrator, working on various projects ranging from editorial illustrations to concept art for video games and animation. Over time, I honed my skills as an animator, and my work has been featured in several projects, including “Sonic Mania Adventures” and “Team Sonic Racing: Overdrive”.
I am also an author, having co-written some children’s and young adult books with my wife, Michelle Giraldo. Some of our titles include “My Little Piggy”, a charming children’s book, and “The Shadow of Kaia”, a suspenseful comic. Additionally, we are developing our short film “Anchors”. Through our works, we aim to inspire and entertain young readers.
As an artist, my goal is to create engaging and memorable visual experiences for my clients and audience. I work closely with my clients to understand their needs and preferences, and I strive to bring their visions to life through my art. Whether creating concept art for a new video game or illustrating a children’s book, I take pride in delivering high-quality work that meets my client’s expectations.
What sets me apart from other artists is my versatility and my ability to tell stories through my art. I am comfortable working in a variety of styles and mediums, and I enjoy exploring new ways to communicate my ideas and concepts. I believe that a strong narrative is essential to creating impactful art, and I always aim to tell stories that are authentic, relatable, and emotionally resonant.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
One pivotal moment in my career was when I had to transition from traditional mediums to digital tools. It opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me as an artist, allowing me to explore animation and expand my artistic horizons. While I embraced the digital realm, I never lost my appreciation for traditional techniques, as I believe they provide a strong foundation and understanding of the art form.
Embracing new technologies and continually seeking knowledge through resources like books has been essential in my career journey, enabling me to pivot and adapt to the ever-changing landscape of animation
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the ability to express myself freely and share my unique perspective with the world. It’s a deeply fulfilling experience to have a medium through which I can communicate my thoughts, emotions, and ideas, transcending language barriers and connecting with others on a profound level.
The act of creating, whether it’s painting, writing, or animating, is a deeply immersive and meditative experience. It allows me to enter a state of flow, where time seems to stand still, and I am completely absorbed in the present moment.
