We were lucky to catch up with Isaac Middendorf recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Isaac, thanks for joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
If given the chance to begin my journey earlier, I would have undoubtedly seized it. The inception of Promethex Productions took place in the autumn of 2021, during my junior year of college. Over the course of the past seven years, I dedicated myself to refining my production skills, and it felt like the right moment to utilize my musical creation abilities outwardly. Initially, the concept of starting a business hadn’t crossed my mind, as I was still a college student in the process of learning the nuances of running a music industry enterprise. Nevertheless, had I initiated my business later, I would have missed out on the invaluable experiences of collaborating with exceptionally talented individuals, assisting them in cultivating successful music careers. Instead, I might have found myself working for an already established company, devoid of the freedom to exercise my creativity and lacking the conducive environment required to collaborate effectively with my clients.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Isaac Middendorf, and I am the founder and owner of Promethex Productions, a music production studio situated in the vibrant 12 South area of Nashville. Our establishment specializes in providing comprehensive music production, mixing, and mastering services tailored to artists from diverse backgrounds. To establish connections with artists, I actively engaged with various online platforms such as YEP Nashville and the Nashville Musicians Network through Facebook groups. The primary objective at Promethex Productions is to assist artists in discovering their unique sound and facilitate their growth into accomplished musicians. I firmly believe that each individual possesses a distinctive musical talent that can contribute something exceptional to the world, and it is my responsibility to extract and harness that creative energy from the artist, transforming it into a masterpiece. We are committed to unearthing the next big star in the music industry.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Relocating to a new site marked a significant milestone in my career as a music producer. The transition was not easy since I had grown accustomed to my home studio setup, and starting from scratch was a daunting prospect. However, given the challenges that come with running a business from a bedroom, I was also excited about the fresh opportunities that awaited me. One of the most challenging aspects of setting up my new studio was converting a closet into a functional vocal booth. It took some time and effort, but eventually, I managed to complete the task and settle into my new workspace.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Without a doubt, Facebook groups such as YEP Nashville and Nashville Musicians have been invaluable to me. The music community in Nashville is exceptionally tight-knit, and I have constantly received support and opportunities through these online platforms. I have never encountered any difficulty finding clients as the app has served as an excellent resource for me.
