Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaac Mather.
Hi Isaac, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in New York, eventually moving to California at age 9, and my passion for music began there. I remember I went over to my friends house and recorded some songs onto his computer and we burned them onto cd’s. I then became sick with Lyme Disease and 2 Co-Infections at age 10, leaving me bedridden. I eventually became much better as a few years passed, although that wouldn’t last long. I eventually moved to Virginia where I still live today, and at age 12 is when I started to get into rapping. I began doing music all the time and I started producing beats. Around that time I was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome, an Autoimmune Disorder, a brain inflammation, and CIDP. I became very ill and became bedridden and wheelchair bound again, but this time much worse than before. I had to have a home nurse administer a treatment called IVIG for 18 months in a row. I then got a foot long catheter in my heart to undergo the next treatment called Plasmapheresis for 6 months. They spun my blood out of my body 1.5 times each day and as it went through the machine and cleaned the blood as it went back into my body for 4 days out of the month. Things were rough. We went to every doctor, had every test done, but nothing seemed to help until we went the natural route and I went to a doctor who had a treatment called Bio-Energetic Sprays which you spray under your tongue to reset your immune system to be able to fight off infection. About a year into that I started to become better, very gradually making my way out of the wheelchair to be able to do what I was not able to do. It took a long while to get back to normal. I would say I’m 95% better now, even though I still deal with Tourette Syndrome on a daily basis. It is a hard thing to deal with, especially as mine is quite severe. I have been made fun of countless times by people in public and friends. I used my pain and all of this hurt to make music and hopefully relate to others. My song Bury Myself about my Tourette Syndrome blew up and also took off in the Tourette’s Community as others who struggled with the same thing told me the song gave them a voice and made them feel heard. Today, I have amassed over 2 million streams and have performed in front of 13,000 people twice, even opening up for the 7 time Grammy Award-winning artist TobyMac one of those times. I give Jesus all the glory for my recovery and for any success I may attain. I can’t wait for what’s to come! Inspiring others through my music is why I keep going and will never stop.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As mentioned, my 7 year health journey with all of the chronic health issues I had was anything but easy. Since I am much better from that though, my Tourette Syndrome still is a big struggle for me to this day. Leaving me with social anxiety many days, a lot of times I struggle to be in public because of the fear of being hurt again by people staring and judging and laughing. I use my music as my therapy for me. To see it resonate with others is mind blowing to me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a pop artist, producer, songwriter, and audio engineer. I have been doing it since I was 9 years old. I am 22 now. My music has gained 2 million streams in the past few years and has reached people all over the world. I’ve been able to connect with some awesome power players in the music industry like Charlie Puth, Tommee Profitt, Lecrae, TobyMac, and more. I started of rapping as a kid, but then transitioned into more singing as I got older. I never like to be in a box. It’s just like a painter, why would a painter only paint one picture over and over? Same with being an artist, I create whatever I feel like creating and don’t define myself under one genre. Right now, I’m big into Folk and Country. I am working on a massive TV show right now with some huge movie companies producing all of the music for the show, and that has been an absolute blast. I see myself doing much more of that in the future as well on top of touring full time.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I can bake some absolutely insane chocolate chip and snickerdoodle cookies. You probably wouldn’t expect that from me but trust me, I love baking cookies.
