We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Isa Diaz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Isa below.
Hi Isa, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
Well, the idea stemmed from me learning about my own culture and others as well. I wanted to dig deep about my family history and learned amazing, and even some inspiring stories. So, it inspired me to tap back into my roots to find out what and where exactly I came from. It started as my doing my own readings, and then readings for friends. Everytime I was accurate, and sometimes this scared people. Even with the fear from outside sources, I dig deeper. Doing shadow work, root work, spell work. I learned so much but what really stuck was the message that love was peoples purpose. And so that became my mission.
I started reading any and everyone. Now, this had its ups and downs seeing as I was working two jobs at the time and was doing it for free. However, after helping a few clients a few times, they pushed me to begin actually charging for my time and service, which was hard for me to do. This practice isn’t something someone should be paid for, I believe. So, I sooth myself by saying people are paying for a friend and not readings.
The first year was exciting, but after that… Not much happened. I still had the same clients coming to me, which was great. But word wasn’t spreading about what I did because I never tried to get it out there. This began my marketing journey 2 years in. Around this time, I also met a fellow business woman name Brianna who was also running JunchosCookies, and still is. Together, we helping each other spread the word not only about my readings, but about her amazing sweet treats. Now in my third year, I’ve expanded my vision. The focus isn’t just tarot readings. It’s helping all like minded entrepreneurs spread the word about their brand too.
It was a bit hard, I have severe anxiety and can’t be in crowded places. So I can’t do grand vending events, or go to big marketing events like most people. But I do my best pushing my name online.
Even now, my brand isn’t where I’d like it to be, but opportunities like this one open up new windows for the future.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, I got into my practice by researching. I like to know things, a bit of everything. It went from studying history, to studying religions and then people. It’s best to never gate keep any knowledge learned or given, so I use it for good. I provide not just tarot readings, but I create flyers, videos, posters and much more for entrepreneurs and creators for free.
What sets me apart? I’m honest with myself and my clients. If I cannot provide a service, I will politely decline. If someone with malicious intent asks for a reading on someone else’s private life, I must decline. If someone comes to me looking to hex their ex, I must decline.
I’m most proud of my persistence in what I do. I have never and will never give up on my mission. I’d love for community to become a more natural thing for people, helping one another helps bring that back to life. Hopefully, free services and hopefully the affirmation filled readings can help that vision.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Yes! I was actually sitting by the water at Penn’s Landing, when Brianna ( owner of JunchosCookies) came up to me and asked if I’d like to buy some cookies. Of course, I could never decide a treat. Nor could I decide helping another local business owner getting their name out there. Not only did I buy a few cookies, I followed her on Instagram and we’ve been friends ever since!
We even have an event we call “Crystals & Cookiez”, where you can get free crystals with your cookie purchases! We’ve only done this twice, but was a success both times!
My husband also plays a big part in marketing strategies I like trying! He’s my go to person for marketing ideas, captions that capture attention, and unbiased opinions on things I’ve created.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Luckily for me, my husband is well versed in marketing strategies and is an amazing writer. Everytime I typed something up or created something for my brand, I ran it by him to be sure it would actually capture an audiences attention. He still helps me with this!
For those trying to build, be persistent! Rome was not built in a day, you won’t have a boat load of followers as soon as you start!
