Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Irma Alvarado. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Irma thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
It all began one day when I was stuck in traffic returning from work. The idea of doing something exceptional and distinctive crossed my mind. The dream of being an entrepreneur has always been in the back of my head, but I wanted to do something that I would enjoy.
There was one thing I was certain of: “whatever I planned to do would be beneficial to me personally and to my family”. As I thought more about it, I realized my husband and I both have skin conditions. His skin condition is dermatitis, and mine is ichthyosis. Our condition has not improved over the years despite using several prescribed medications, creams, ointments, and lotions.
As a result of my frustration and concerns, I decided what I wanted to do. I discussed the idea with my husband during the dinner that night. I told him about my ideas. The moment he heard about my ideas, he immediately said, “I know you can do it, and you will be great!”
Our brainstorming session started right there. We grabbed a napkin, borrowed a pen from the waiter, and wrote down a few names. The name of our business, Jasdi {Jas+Di}, was created by combining the names of our children.
As soon as we found the business name, my next step was to address the education aspect. I then enrolled in college to specialize in skincare formulations. Using organic, natural, and vegan ingredients to formulate my skincare products.
In addition to attending college, I received a diploma in Professional Natural Vegan Skincare Formulation as well as a specialization in Skincare Formulation. As a career change, I knew it would be challenging, but I took the risk and I am enjoying every minute of it.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I was born in Massachusetts and raised in Puerto Rico. As a child, I grew up eating mangoes, passion fruit, hawthorn fruit, guava, papaya, and many more tropical fruits. This has led me to integrate tropical fruit extracts, oils, and butter into my formulations. These ingredients offer so many benefits to the skin that many people are unaware of them. Educating others about natural vegan ingredients that are highly beneficial to their skin is one of my passions as a skincare professional. My goal is to encourage my clients to adopt a regimen that nourishes, loves, and takes care of their largest organ, their skin.
Additionally, I recommend that consumers familiarize themselves with the names of these toxic ingredients found in many conventional and ordinary skincare products.
Throughout my social media channels, I constantly educate and advise people on how to properly understand the ingredients on the back label of skincare products. Many of these skincare products have toxic chemicals that are damaging to our skin, which is why most of the world’s population has skin conditions.
There are a lot of people that tell me that they suffer from skin conditions that, unfortunately, cannot be cured. Often, I receive requests from consumers asking for product recommendations to alleviate their skin conditions. The greatest satisfaction I get is when they show me the improvement in their skin and provide me with great feedback.
Their daily skincare routine now includes my products.
Thanks to their feedback and encouragement, I am motivated to carry on with this wonderful journey.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Success is all about attitude. Patience, discipline, persistence, determination, and consistency are essential in this field.
The desire to help others and the feedback from your customers will keep you motivated to continue.
Keep your expectations realistic. As a precaution, continuing education is an excellent way to prepare for any challenges that may arise in the future. Focus on completing one project and pursuing it. As soon as the project is complete, move onto the next one.
Your success depends on the way you invest in your business.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I built my reputation within my business niche by sharing my story, testimonials, honesty, education, credentials, and expertise.
