We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Iris Svis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Iris below.
Iris, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I love movies, so for me, it’s my latest project. We just shot a feature called A Sense of Dread. It was a bonding experience with a lot of obstacles that we overcame together. I believe this on-set experience made us stronger and prepared more for what is to come.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a film/television producer, writer, and director. Born in Russia, my parents introduced me to the world of art through dance and music education. At the age of fourteen, I began traveling the world which exposed me to the diversity and richness of many beautiful cultures and languages. I even became an interpreter to help continue my travels and exploration of humanity. However once I realized that I love art and storytelling, I soon understood that my purpose was in developing my craft to create unique narratives that portray the universal thread shared by all cultures.
I produce short films, and web series, and have a few features in development. Currently, I am working as a producer on a Comedy/Action feature film, FORTUNE ZOMBIES. By constantly challenging myself to create through collaboration, I believe in making art that will make a difference in the world.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
So many things, but one that comes to mind is how the art of storytelling on screen is a collective effort. I have met so many great people in this industry, all as passionate as I am about creating. Right now I am working with some amazing folks that are helping to make Fortune Zombies come to life. No pun intended. Artur Lago-V, Daniel Amato, Claudia Macias Cane, Em Hampton, and Tyler Crane are all part of my team and each one brings their own unique and dynamic energy.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Artists are storytellers. It’s in our power to tell the most important and pivotal stories to the best of our abilities. Once you get to do that it’s the most exciting thing in the world. The reward is that the wide audience gets to see your story and hopefully be moved by it.
