We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Iris Perez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Iris thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Since I was a little girl I’ve always wanted to dress up, wear makeup. Not just regular makeup, I wanted people to have a double take, so I started doing sfx makeup. Took me a while to get it, it’s not an easy task. I remember my mother showing me some old pictures of her in her Halloween pictures. She always went to the extreme. As I grew older, I became a mother but that never stopped me from the passion I have for makeup.
Iris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So my name is Iris, my friends call me “The Latin Princess” I was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Puerto Rico where my parents are from.
I’n 2016 I discovered modeling. It was an absolute dream. The wigs, makeup, runway and even making new creative friends was everything to me. I even met the one and only Liris Crosse. She is so humble and so knowledgeable.
The very first time on the runway was one of the best experiences I ever had. The crowd clapping and going wild while you have to stay in character is a CRAZY feeling. But definitely Keeps you wanting more.
After a while, I was a creative director for editorial and avant-garde. It gave me a chance to use my craft and bring it to life. I would have to admit that I have a weakness for “dark “ themes. For some reason it’s kind of sexy to me.
I’ve always been one to spice up a scene. Who said you can’t bring fake blood to a lingerie shoot?!
Honestly, it’s been a great 6 years. I don’t regret ANY of it. If I would of known, I would of started way sooner in my career. I’m really looking forward to work many more years in the modeling business.
Bottom line of the story, it’s NEVER too late to start a new path in your career.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
One thing I’ve learned the hard way, the viewers are your biggest supporters. Whether it’s sharing, liking, commenting or even purchasing content or/and art that probably took you forever to create helps ALOT. You might think a “like” means nothing, trust me, every like/share counts.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
People are savage out there. If you know who created the content/Art that your sharing, give us props! We work hard on everything we do.
